A Beginner's Guide to Internet Marketing – Who Should You Believe?

If you are new to the Internet Marketing arena, you are probably confused by all of the information that you have read. There is so much information out there that it can be overwhelming even to the most seasoned Internet Marketers. There is a multitude of beginner's Internet Marketing information. There is even a whole lot of conflicting information that is passed around. You are told to do this or that, then told why you shouldn't do this or that by yet another Internet Marketing Guru. Who should you believe?

Okay, take a deep breath, and try to forget everything you've heard. It is time to start over at the beginning by first determining which Guru you need to listen to.

Not all Gurus are alike and not all Gurus are actually Gurus! This is the first step in determining who you should be taking advice from when it comes to a beginner's guide to Internet Marketing.

When you find an Internet Marketing expert that you think you would like to follow, you need to do some research. There are many who claim to be experts five minutes after turning on their very first computer. These are not the people you want to follow. There are many who use methods that aren't quite ethical or even legal. Again, these are not the experts you want to take advice from. The hard part is determining who is who in the Internet Marketing world.

Get the guru's name. Do a search in any search engine, and read everything that you can find about that person before sending them any money. Next, visit one of the quality Internet Marketing forums, and ask the other members what they think of a particular marketer, and who they would recommend for a beginner's guide to Internet Marketing. If possible, try to find a forum where the person in question is not a member. (Note: a guru may be well-known in one forum and not known at all in some others)

Visit the guru's website, and download any free information that is available. See what they have to say in their free materials before you spend money on their products. You will eliminate many using this method. Is the material written in a language you can understand? Does the writing seem professional? Do they seem like they have something to say that others are not already telling you?

If you like what you've seen so far, look to see what their product offers are for a beginner's guide to Internet Marketing. Does it seem like you will get a lot of value for your money? If so, it is time to subscribe to the guru's free newsletter. See what kind of content they send you. If it's just a bunch of advertisements, this guru may not be the right one for you. But if they give you valuable content, then you may have found your guru.

Also, use compete.com to see, roughly, how many monthly hits they get.

In fact, this and reading their free tips, is all you may need, basically.

I have lost count the number of times I have used this to check them out. Like, John Reese.

It is not accurate, of course, but it is enough to show that they don't know anything about marketing, advertising.

You can listen to everybody, believe nobody...

Well - at least cross-check things a bit. It's worth listening to people. Even "bad examples" can show you way on what not to do..

I would agree with you to a certain extent. However, you can still look at even the top people in the industry and they will disagree on a wide variety of things. It's not about one being right and one being wrong, it is about one thing working for one person, and that not working for someone else.

Internet marketing is more about testing, testing some more, and testing even on top of that to find out what works and doesn't work. This is what you do with PPC, direct advertising, article marketing, social bookmarking or anything else that you would see discussed here. Different websites will have different things that work for them.

Lets also realize that different people value their ROI differently. Some people would be very happy spending $20.00 on direct advertising and getting 200 visitors per month from it. Others would consider that failure. It is all in the eye of the beholder, but ulitimately, the webmaster is responsible for determing what he considers to be success and failure.

Good point. But when they say stuff like "quit your job and work from home....".... Or the stuff shit shooters, like, Reese says in his dead site(s), that is something different.

The bottom line is the little they themselves get, along with reading their free "methods," like idccyou said, if they even offer any, then that says it all.

It's about testing some stuff. And doing what works for YOU.

I have learned great stuff from people that you can't just "GOOGLE".

You can learn a lot from many different people. Everyone will let you down and do something that you don't like. That is life.

My suggestion: Find people you think you might wanna learn from. Give them chance. And if you get some good stuff out of it great. If you don't really dig what they are teaching. Move along.

If you keep your eyes and mind open. You can learn a lesson from anything.

I've got a couple of favourite 'gurus' - but it's taken 2 years to find them - and they aren't necessarily the 'big gurus', but they're worth their weight in gold, quietly achieving!

There's soooo much free information in the forums that if you just take notes from everything you are learning, you'll have a wealth of information in no time.

Well, hopefully those gurus of yours really know what they are talking about.

These clowns have dead to very slow sites, yet they call themselves such things as "marketing pioneer." heh heh: Mike Filsaime, Joe Vitale, Mark Joyner, Rich Schefren, RichJerk.com, Joel Comm, and so many other blowhards.

So much bullshit out there...ya gotta be careful.

The only ones you should listen to are your customers. When they are buying, they are saying, "We like you. We like your stuff. We like it so much, we're giving you our money for it."

I use techniques that some "guru's" will tell you are "dead".

If by "dead" they mean "consistently producing revenues" then do not resuscitate me!

As you read ANY information, see what "clicks" for you. If you can understand it and begin implementing it, go for it. Test for results.

When you find techniques that work for you, then simply .... lather, rinse, and repeat.

I almost fell out of my chair, kid. Thanks.

So, who did all of this, exactly?

    Names.

    "revolutionsed"???

    Is that a word?

And how did they, um, revolutionize marketing?

I'm not going to waste my time answering your questions. Their achievements and what they've done in many fields, is clear for all to see, except maybe for people like you.

Is my question a little too difficult for you to answer? What have you done that is comparable to people like Mark Joyner, Mike Filsaime, Joe Vitale or any other big name who've made Millions, 10's Millions if not more?

You're full of It. There are idiots like you on every forum who feel big by disparging people like them who've accomplished alot more and helped more people than some nobody like you ever will.

Don't waste my time, either answer my question or shut it because I've got better things to do with my Life than squander it away on people with a mentality such as your's
