any sudden ramp up in efforts will sound warning bells to google, take it slowly one step at a time, get your site right from the beginning and it will pay off over time. do not be discouraged as it may take 4-5 months before you are onto page one of google. but if you are consistent you will rank... all my students rank when they put in the effort and time....

 

it is continue process.
For example
If you are on the top and stopped then you competitor will get the high ranking by building links. So seo is continue process.
you will get the traffic until you are in high SERP. so build link continuously.

 

I think if u can achieve good ranking on some high traffic keyword and then provide quality content or services to your visitors you can build a large and permanent visitor base. Most of the visitors on some highly reputed sites visit them directly or r referred by friends.

 

submit the site in blog directories search engines forums press relases etc....

 

till you shut down your business and start offline business.

No way to get 'permanent' traffic. Google can ban you or delist you... Don't worry about 'GETTING' traffic. Worry about getting GOOD QUALITY content. Them use social bookmarks to drive initial traffic + indexing.
