Yahoo! Site Explorer tool is the best tool to check backlinks. There is no restriction and you don't need to sign up, the session does not expire and the result is not limited like other backlink checker tools.

    Hi,

For article submissions I take a string before I distribute the article e.g. "my article all about light blue green widgets and their effect on the environment"

I search for this in quotes in google, if I get 0 results then I know it is unique. It's not an exact science but it works OK.

I then search again after I've distributed my article and can pick up places that have published it.

If you automate this process and do it daily it's one way to track where and how many times your article has been picked up.

My experience is however that with shotgun article distribution a large number of publishers will strip out your link.

    Regards.

Has anybody else tried SEO Spyglass? The free version pulls data from Yahoo Site Explorer. It allows you to separate links by blogs/forums, home pages, and directories.

It also gives way more info than Site Explorer including Web Page PR, Domain PR, No Follow/Do Follow, Anchor Text, Total Links on Page, Domain Age, Alexa Rank, Contact Info, etc.

the yahoo linkdomain command is better than the google link command, to get a thorough analysis you must purchase a tool which will analyse your and your competitors links .. note siteexplorer is the same as linkdomain... google webmaster tools.. no thanks...

One of the easiest way to check backlink of your site in google first write link then :(semi colon) and write your site name. (e.g link:http://www.greatcountry.com) and you will get the list, if there is backlink otherwise it will not show if there is no backlink.
