I think .ws is going to do very well. I say that from a SEO standpoint. A developed website with a .ws extension does very well in the search engine results.

Also .ws was originally was going to stand for Western Somoa. But it does not anymore! It stands for Website. Even GoDaddy will tell you that.

Well, no... it has been "branded" as "dot WebSite," but the extension is a ccTLD with all the benefits and drawbacks, not a gTLD like a .mobi, .com, .net, .org, etc.

It is Western Samoa a country domain for Western Samoa, but it is marketed as Web Site. Just as .LA is for the country of Laos but marketed as for the city of LA (Los Angeles)

I own one .ws since 2003 and I still own it. I don't know if this still pertain or not, but I remember that if you want to transfer it out from where you originally purchase, you would need to shell out a $100?

    I own netcenter.ws and I like it :)

I have ranked many .ws domains on the first page of google, as from a SEO standpoint, I think they rank just as good as a .biz and better than a .us

My point exactly. They do just as good as .net .org .info .biz .us Of coarse, .com is still king of coarse.

It really depends on who is doing the seo and the promotion of the site, but there are not any drawbacks that I can see from owning one.

Right now, there are a lot of very good domain names still available, and these naysayers are going to look back at this moment and cry, and realized they have passed a very good opportunity.

I add to my domain list every month with around 5 .ws domain names. I have one: healthcare 4 million searches a month on google alone. You cant tell me it is not worth the $13 bucks I spent on it.

If you are planning on using a .ws domain as a future investment and hoping that by selling it you will have a good ROI then.......GOOD LUCK (you'll need it)! I dont understand why so many people dont understand the GDI affiliate program or slate it so bad. Yes the company has been active since 99 but the affiliate program wasnt launched until may 2004. Anyone whos intrested in what this program entails should visit:

but that is to be expected really with a domain like that, free in every extension is worth a lot, obviously the .com and .co.uk, net etc are going to be worth a lot more, but it does show the potential of the .ws extension.

I would like to correct you here. Please read this

Though owned by the country of Western Samoa, .WS domains work exactly like .COM domains. .WS is 100% globally accessible, and can be viewed by anyone accessing the Internet from anywhere in the world. It's perfect for:

Businesses - Great for a new site or as a supplement to an existing site.

Trademark owners - An effective way to protect your brand and intellectual property.

Individuals - .WS is recognized the Web Site domain

Organizations - Globally recognized, .WS is a great way to reach your audience.

    Can I get .WS? (WebSite)
Anyone, regardless of location, can register .WS domains. .WS is intended for use by the general public, companies or other organizations - and works just like a .COM. .WS is an officially sanctioned top-level domain recognized by every country in the world that has Internet access, and needs no special software for use.

Read more about .WS domain at http://www.securepaynet.net/gdshop/tlds/ws.asp?tld=ws&ci=13152&prog_id=ruchiedomains
