Theme Unzipped into Folder to Upload?

You guys will probably think I'm dumb as a rock, but it has been a couple of years since I did all this backend stuff with Wordpress.

I have downloaded a theme I like. It's in a zip file and Win Zip comes up for me to unzip it. But what I can't remember is what to do after that. How do the theme files make their way into a folder that I can upload to my FTP or file manager so that it will show up in my Wordpress blog theme directory?

I fooled with this for about an hour before creating a thread to get help. What I end up doing is either having the whole zip file uploaded, which does no good, or when I click on the theme in my computer files to upload it, there are a page full of files rather than just one with all the stuff in it, like I know from when I blogged before it was. I used to change themes in seconds.

Can you help me please? I want to replace the theme I have with a tennis theme.

    Thanks in advance.

    Denise

Just upload the theme folder to wp-content/themes/ and go to your dashboard and pick your new theme.

Yup just as the guys above me mentioned.

    - Simply unzipped the theme's folder on to your desktop.
    - Log In to your FTP Access using your favorite FTP Program, such as FileZille or CuteFTP.
    - Then go to "Public_HTML -> [your blog's folder] -> WP-Content -> Themes"
    - Upload that unzipped folder in the "Themes" folder
    - Log in to your Wordpress WP-Admin then go to "Appearance" from the left side bar and just activate the new theme!

    Good luck!

I didn't make myself very clear, but thanks for the input.

My problem is with getting the files unzipped. When Winzip pops up, that's where I can't remember what I am supposed to do. I just now tried it again. I clicked on the file for the theme, and then hit "extract to" in the toolbar across the top. The theme goes to my computer, and it is in a regular file, looking like it's been unzipped, but when I try to upload it to my FTP or my file manager, I click on the folder and instead of the whole thing uploading into my theme folder as it should, i get another page of all the files and if I click save I just get the whole zipped folder uploaded.

I hope I made more sense this time. I know for a fact that this is supposed to be easy. I am really frustrated that I can't remember what to do, or figure out what I am doing wrong. I have been having trouble concentrating and some memory loss after a lengthy illness.

Are you dragging the whole folder into your wp-content directory? Just unzip the .download file and drag the whole folder over to ftp.

I haven't been doing any dragging. I have been clicking on upload in my FTP and trying to upload themes from my computer. But everytime I click on the folder for the theme, it opens up another folder with a bunch of files, it never enters the bottom slot to be uploaded. I tried dragging the whole folder to my FTP like you said but it didn't go. I tried several different ways, and there's not dragging and dropping.

This has got to be easier than I am making it, and I am sorry to continue to appear obtuse, but honestly, I am trying my best to do what you guys tell me to with each new reply. Someone please come along and understand exactly what my problem is and help me overcome it!

What FTP program are you using? Try smartftp, filezilla, or core ftp, they do let you drag/drop. If you don't want to do that then in your wp-content/themes files in ftp create a new directory with the theme's name. Then, upload all the files inside the theme folder into that new directory- it will have the same effect as uploading the whole file.
