Computers, the internet, and video games have created a slew of new words, definitions for old ones, acronyms, and slang. Words like "hacker" "spam" "flame" "troll" and "texting" have entered the language, whereas terms like "noob" or "warez" may do so in the future. I have started this thread to hear your tech-based slang. What new words have evolved to describe the computer lifestyle? I am especially interested in terms related to virtual gaming/RPG's, as I don't know alot about that subculture. Please include a definition of all words. I'm not really interested in acronyms or leet, but in the slang of today which will be apart of tomorrows tech vocab. But I guess lets hear whatever stands out for you. Thank you for your contributions.
I'll help kick start this by listing some common ones I use almost everyday I spent 5 minutes writing a list of words and then remembered these videos which I watched a couple of months back and I'm sure amanamission you'll feel they belong here and get something from them, at least a laugh at the honesty spoke in them, infact I'm sure anyone that has been around for a while on the net will get a good laugh from them. How To Speak Geek How To Behave On An Internet Forum How To Upgrade Your Webslang To Web 2.0 How To Ruin Xbox Live For Everyone Else Personally I hate the word newbie, sounds gay a fluffy coated for the fairies of this world, use NOOB or NUB (knows less than a noob) for crying out loud. Also I'm interested in RPG slang, not an RPG kinda guy (don't have time to explore dumbledore(world of warcraft land I think)). Also on a side note what is the tongue thing in your avatar bro, hiroshima? Just haven't seen it before, something spititual/3rd eye like or something else?
It was cropped from an early version of the cover of metaphysical novel Blues 4 Kali, by Indi Riverflow. I am the artist and publisher as well as subject of the book. It is a portrait of the Goddess Kali as envisioned by the author. You can see the full animated version and a description of the image at: www.blues4kali.com Thanks for your contribution. Those links were funny, but pretty basic. I'm looking for more exotic terms, out-of-the-way words that haven't yet hit the mainstream. You guys are all webmasters...c'mon! Programmers, I really want to hear about that lingo as well.
Thanks mate I'll definatly be checking it out, though as far as 'exotic' terms go I can't say I've heard many of late I notice many people stringing words together a heap, like nelser (new loser) or lolzor (laugh out loud loser) or shortening everything in sentences vocally, like when you talk to some at a coffee shop, they no longer laugh at a joke but "LOL" at it or "WTF u c dat kj (knobjockey)?" I swear the first time someone spoke to me like this my mouth hit the ground, I was like holy shit, did video games turn into rl (reallife) overnight? The more I get into thinking about it the more I can remember people using. I also find people referring to a 'tool' as an actually tool now, like "John did anybody ever tell you you're a shovel?" I guess its 1337 mixed with textese mixed with abbr. mixed with IM apps mixed with IT mixed with computer parts and serial no's mixed with proper english I'm really interested in hearing those ones that peeps (peoples) in the know have heard and use.
