If the site is new you have no credibility with the search engines yet.
Have you optimized the site, do you have content, links, etc?

It's quite a common phenomenon with new sites. When google first finds you it gives you an unnatural push to the top, then you drop down to a more 'natural' position.

Same thing happens with my adsense site but they are still ranking good for some keywords in the top 10 results but for others it has gone to 3 or 4th page, and for some keywords i can't find my site in the top 100.

I had something similar happen. I created a new site on a relatively unknown person. My website quickly rose to the top on Google.

About a week later a major daily newspaper carried a short article on the same person. That article was syndicated and picked up all over the country. For several weeks after the newspaper article appeared, it and its progeny occupied the top and many of the slots on the first couple of pages of Google searches. Now my website has reoccupied the top slot, and the original newspaper article and only one syndicated version appear in the top 20 searches.

Content will help, but you are going to have to be patient. It will take several weeks for the search engines to spider and index the site for organic rankings

you might not have backlinks or you have not gone for any optimization startegies....getting on the first page for a new one is easy but it also happens that google takes you down in the case to check the website for each and every option and then update the same.......this time is not decided and not known by anyone

The Big G loves kid :D That's why they give a temporary boost to those sites that are new. But that ranking normally drops down after several days like what happened to your site.

This happens because you had a good link or links to the site which than got buried, eg sometimes you submit to a directory and the frontpage of the directory lists something like "Last 10 newest links" and you get a link from their homepage with a high PR, a few days later your site is no longer one of the newest links and is buried on a deep page with low or zero page rank, like the majority of links in directories. This happens with press releases, ad sites etc

That's usual.. most probably you will be back... but if its a competitive keyword... then you may not be on 1st page again....

if it is well optimized then you will need to wait few weeks so your sites goup on google positions but dont forget to keep link building with related and high ranked sites and keep writing articles once in a while.

for new keyword optimized site, it is pretty common. that why no one should get excited to see the initial ranking. ranking stabilizes over the course of time and you always look at your long term ranking. just keep building backlinks and over time you will climb back up

This is normal to see a new site jump up top for a keyword. then drop just as fast. To stay on top you need time and content.
