I think it is better to go for a .com rather than going for .info
.com is more popular and it is more professional than any other TLD.
But when your selection should depend on the purpose you are aiming at.

I usually go with the .info

Most of the names I want, the .com is taken.

Everytime I go to the .com, to see what I am competing against, it's a "non-site", offering to sell me the .com name-- at a ridiculous price. Or just hoarding it, but telling me where I can send an offer.

As such, I'm not much worried about a surfer typing in the .com name (as opposed to using a bookmark-- or "re-googling" to return to my site.)

They are all the same other than the matter of respect and resell worth.

.coms are just looked to be worth more if you are selling a site.

I'm only considering .com because it is easier to remember but I don't think it is better when it comes to SEO.

See why I have little patience for these empty-headed noobs here?

    That, and...
    Unbelievable.

On a sidenote, other than that site that has over 250,000 monthly hits I posted about, just out of curiosity, I tried finding info sites with a lot of traffic. It's tough. :D

For marketing purposes, yes it matter.

.info - doesn't appear credible, IMO.
.com - sounds professional and it's been the grandfather of all TLDs. You are safe with the .com.

If you're marketing something, you will appear more trustworthy with the .com than with .info.

SEO-wise, search engines doesn't give a d*mn what extension your site is.

In terms of SEO or any preference in GOOGLE i don't think there is any ups or down between .com and .info, yes .com is more appealing but the OP is asking that he will be able to make more content sites with .info domains as there costs less initially i think if ur site have good content customer will look in to it irrespective of it .info.
i too recently registered a .info domain for content site.

I use .com (and have a few .net). I think .com domains are more professional and have better "recall" than .info names (in my opinion).

There is a widely held opinion that .info domains are penalized by Google. Personally, I don't think this is the case. The reason why many .info domains don't rank well in Google is because they are light on content and backlinks. People who get a domain name on sale for 99 cents at GoDaddy aren't motivated to make certain they get their money's worth out of the purchase. They buy the domain, maybe throw up a few articles and then move on. Dot-com owners have a little more "pride of ownership" in their sites, and thus they spend more time polishing their dot-coms. There are, of course, exceptions to this, and you will see the occasional high ranking .info site, but it is rare.

There are a lot of people here sharing opinions without any facts to back them up. I have over 200 domains with niche sites on them and my results are as follows: .com outperforms the other extensions almost all the time. After the .com comes .net and .org. My .info domains are a disaster. I attribute this to the spammers shelling out $1 per .info domain and filling them up with 10,000 page spam sites. This is my experience based on 200 domains. I hope this helps someone.

It doesn't matter what the search engines do now - all the big brands and big online stores etc all use .com so the general public associate .com with big names so .com will always be better....

    Now THAT is worth repeating.

TommyGadget, don't put the blame on something else when you can't make it work. Put the blame where it belongs.

There are info sites doing quite well. I posted about one in the other thread on this. He gets over 250,000 hits a month.

Extensions have nothing to do with it. Only complete morons, noobs, think different. It's the site itself, and not getting the word out, via ads, that is the problem.

Actually, I have a lot of experience doing niche sites. I am telling you that in my experience, my .com domains outperformed my .info domains. I mean that I created several versions of the exact same site registering the .com .net .org and .info extensions to test it for myself. Now, the results FOR ME have proven my point. This may be due to the fact that most people search for a site and put a .com first. It may be due to some other factors. I don't know why but that is what I have observed. I am sure that you can make a .info site work, but when I flip sites, I can tell you FOR SURE that a .com domain brings in more cash and is easily worth the extra few dollars for registration.

The first thing any pro will suggest is go for com than info .This may not affect your directory submission and other seo stuff etc but .com make it much more professional than info(you said that too). Also most of the people remember only domain name and assume .com with it .(I hope you got the point).
Info may not create that much effect depending upon the kind of website you have but if you have choice between .com and .info then without any second thought you should go for .com even if your website is just giving information .
