Someone had told me that Host Gator was the best hosting company, but when I went to the site, it looks like it's for Linux only. Is this true? If it is for Linux only, what is the best cheap hosting site for Windows?
Hostgator offers Windows hosting. Click on "Web Hosting", then scroll down a bit and you will see the "Windows Hosting" tab.
http://www.hostgator.com/windows-hosting.shtml They don't have windows hosting yet, but theres some nice hosting companies that offer both OS's. 1and1 hosting has both to choose from, from about $5 a month I believe.
Are you sure that you need windows web hosting? What are your requirements? Be aware that windows web hosting more expensive then linux.
I'd like to know the same thing as Serverpoint . Is there any particular reason you need windows hosting ? the prices are higher, and a decent host is harder to find (due to the relative scarcity of the service).
hostgator is far from being the best hosting company lol - it has to be what works for you because not everything is great for everybody. they have a lot of happy customers but they also have many disappointed customers - usually these are the people who believe in hostgator's advertised oversold packages. if you plan on hosting a small site without using a lot of space or bandwidth then hostgator is perfect but if you plan on using up a few hundred gigs of bandwidth, then find yourself a VPS or a non-oversold shared hosting service but why do you need windows hosting? asp.net site?
Maybe I don't understand hosting. I thought that if I had a Windows system, I needed a Windows host. Is that not true? If I can host on Linux with a Windows OS, I'm o.k. I look for service more than price, I guess. This person said that HostGator gave you the most, and the best customer support, for the $$. They have a good special going now too, I see.
oh no, if you have windows system, you can get a host with any OS. I personally prefer Linux because it is easier. hostgator does give you the most, they give you unlimited space but if you think about it, do you really think that they can give you UNLIMITED disk space for $10/month? They are overselling and they have a secret limit on all of their hosting packages, so don't think you are getting more just because they are telling you and the word "best" is really an opinion, the person that recommended probably had good experiences but if you speak to someone that has had bad experience, they would name hostgator the worst host ever again it depends on what works for you, something that works for you may not work for someone else and vice versa
I like the word unlimited think about it everything has a limit don't be fooled by the word we have clients that came to us from there and it's what one is looking for.
