How many backlinks does it take to get sandboxed?

I've been working on a site for about a month now and it's almost finished. The keyword I would like to target gets 5,000 searches per month according to google's keyword tool. The #1 result for that keyword only has 33 backlinks. About %80 of them have anchor text that match the keyword string exactly.

I should be able to get to the #1 spot with just 34 backlinks right? Maybe more depending on the PR of the sites linking to me. Anyways, am I going to get sandboxed for building 50 backlinks in one day? One week? A month?

It is not only about the quantity of the links but also about the quality. I recommend build only a few links from quality websites, e. g. high PR forums. Also keep in mind that the age of the website is important factor for google. It is possible that you avoid sandbox but there is no guarantee that you will be #1 with 50 or 100 backlinks.

WRONG!! It's not that simple!! If you had 1 highly relevant backlinks from a high PR site then that could be enough... but 1,000 from irrelevant PR0 sites might not do it. It's not just about link count!

    I can. lol.
It sounds like you can probly just buy one high PR sitewide link that's related and you should be golden. Just go to the links sales section and dominate your niche.
P.S. You don't have to get number 1. Even if you get number 3 you're likely to get a lot of the traffic.

Back links are important, but there are many other factors involved. You might notice that #1 has 50 back links and the person in position #2 has three and #3 has 700. Quality of those links is important. Also the domain name, on page seo, and other factors matter a lot.

Alright thanks for clearing that up guys. You saved me from doing a lot of work here. I'm using other strategies to get sales now but I would love to just be able to sit back and do nothing.

It depends on the quality back links and also the keywords in the page. That is very important.

Does it make a different if you buy a domain for like 2-5 years?
It looks like google index websites faster which are registered for a longer time.

Even domain registered for 1 year can be indexed in a few hours. It depends on the link building and not on the time for which the domain is registered.

First, google must find your domain and index it. When google puts the domain in the index then also checks the whois info. So it can not know for how long is your domain registered before is indexed.

It does matter if your domain is purchased for a longer time. 2 years is a good starting point. The reason being is that there are lots of domains that are purchased, black hat SEO'd to rank quickly and make a few sales, and then they get banned and thrown away. Having a domain that is registered for a longer time tells them that the site is legit, and won't be torn down right away.

But I don't think it has anything to do with indexing, more with PR calculations and where the page will rank.

As many guys talk about high-quality back links.

I don't know how to get high-quality back links.

If you site PR is low, the high PR webmaster will not exchange link with you of course.

So, how do you get back links from high PR site.
