I dont know too much about what is DMOZ.com,i know just its a directory site.

someone told me that according to SEO point of view DMOZ play very important role.
so please tell me about DMOZ and how i can listed my site in DMOZ.com, because my friend told me that it's very difficult to listed in DMOZ.

Took 2 years for me to get listed in dmoz! Its very hard to get in, hehe

Why its important: Its been around a LONG time - so search engines trust it... and has a lot of traffic, so if you get your link in dmoz, you will receive more traffic, higher PageRank (most likely) and higher trust/listings in Search Engines.

DMOZ is a web directory - categorized links with an S-Load of editors (some corrupt might I add).

Many others have built web directories... and when they dropped PR from paid web directories, DMOZ became even more important because it still had high PR... and most other web dirs got dropped to 0.

You can submit your website to DMOZ for free. If you get listed there, it will definitly help with search engines.

dmoz is not a simple directory, google use dmoz database, if you have listing in dmoz than google good value for your site

DMOZ is a directory listing site. It has thousands of websites listed, organised into categories.

The reason it's helpful for SEO is that there are many other directory sites that simply duplicate the listings in DMOZ. That means if your site has an entry in DMOZ with a link to your site with anchor text "Blue widgets", then after a couple of months you will get many hundreds of links with the same anchor text (from the duplicate directory listing sites). Because all of these sites are legitimate, established sites, they all have reasonable authority as far as Google is concerned. That means you get several hundred links' worth of power for your target phrase "Blue widgets". And it's free to get a listing on DMOZ!

The drawback is, getting a listing is not always easy or quick. Entries must be reviewed by editors (each section should have an editor, though some sections may have none). If there are no editors for a section, it will be much harder (slower) to get added, so choose a section that DOES have an editor (usually listed at the bottom of the page).

Even with an editor, it may take weeks or months for your submission to get reviewed and accepted. There's not a lot to be done to help - although a very polite email to the editor may help.

Read the guidelines for the DMOZ entry carefully. If the submission is carefully written and meets their guidelines (as well as having useful SEO power for target keywords) you might get in more quickly.

Perhaps because DMOZ is the oldest, most reputable web directory on the net, thats why Google gives more important to it?

DMOZ is very important, Google uses it to build it's index. The main problem is, that there are so many pages submitted every day, that ot takes sometimes years to get indexed...

i want to know that how google use DMOZ at the time of indexing,
it means if a site not indexing in DMOZ then it will not index by google.

 

A few of my sites that I started 5 or 6 years ago got listed in dmoz.org but all of my recent efforts to get listed have not worked. It certainly helps a lot if you can get a site listed but seems to be getting harder and harder.
