I think Google sees through word spinning and prefers whole sentence spinning instead. But you must make many variations. Here is a good one I found on my searches:

You can spin whole sentences by using {Sentence1|Sentence2|Sentence3}. However, you will get more variations of the sentence if you spin each word.

 

Yes, Devour is right, the script can spin words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs or even whole article variations.

 

I'm pretty sure that google can see through sentence spinning as well.

 

Well, taking in consideration the huge amount of spam i see everyday at top serp's i guess Google needs bigger eyeglasses.

 

From what I have seen from my experiment, search engines are not all seeing monsters. They do not devalue links from spun articles.
