Anyone know why I am not in DMOZ Directory for a simple wedding video site? I posted it months ago and still not listed there? Arghhhhhh:mad:

You're about 1 forum too high, there's a subforum for this, but the short answer is that dmoz adds sites they want to add and dont have near enough volunteers to cover the size of the directory. I edited there for about 8 1/2 yrs, and despite the common conspiracy theories it isnt that your primary competitor "owns" the category and is keeping you out, nor any other nefarious plot. Just a matter of their model not being on the same plane as webmaster expectations.

They get spammed out the wazoo because they are free, and they dont have the manpower to fix it because they are free. In essence it's just a publicly visible version of sites a bunch of volunteers like, and they dont have any obligation to add anything any more than my neighbors dog has to come when I call.

Just submit there and move on to other ways to promote the site, cause agonizing over the fact that their model doesnt provide any assurances is a waste of valuable time. The topic gets discussed far more than any link there warrants. If the guys that complain about it every day had a nickel for every dmoz sucks post they make they could just submit their sites to Yahoo or somebody with the money and forget the whole thing. :)

Based on where you started this thread it may be that you submitted your site to the wrong category. :)

I have sites that are considered authority (if not best) in their niche and still not listed in DMOZ (even though I have submitted them)...

DMOZ does what it does. just wait and pray :)

i submitted a couple of sites several months ago and noticed last month that 3 got in.
It can take a while and they won't notify you if you're listed

Roglowe - You will never know WHY your site isn't approved, cause simply there is. Dmoz editors not send you email because NO. From my experience 7% of sites get to DMOZ. DMOZ is only one, sites millions.

Im sorry it's my Yoda language :) Anyway it is hard to get to dmoz. I said only 1 non-english site get into (17 sites were submitted). So it is like 7% of success.

Don't kill yourself trying to get into DMOZ. Just go through other means. Submit once and be done with it.
