My friends having a little sound problem on her computer.

    In her words:
okay so the speakers are plugged in and all, and lights on. in the corner i have i thing that i can click on the goes to volume control, it says there is no sound. and when i click on it to turn the volume on it wont let me pull it up. When I go on itunes it says there is a prob with audio video playback or something.

    What I told her/she tried:
    Restart
    System Restore

    Any ideas?

I agree with this. Also I've found that system restore can sometimes cause more harm then good, in my opinion!

This is just right and first approach you can do with your computer.

I'd suggest removing the device through device manager, refresh as PNP should pick it up, re-install drivers from disk (if the disk is available), then look for updated drivers on web, download, and install those.

Also, be aware that when uninstalling the device in device manager, there will likely be several "devices" rather than one that the sound card "installs" - remove ALL of them, first, as one of them hanging around when you do this has a tendency of just making the whole process really irritating. I know from experience.

i think you must be having some problem with the existing sound drivers. install new drivers or reinstall the existing one
