IMHO, before you can decide what topic to build quality content on, you have to do some "fishing" by throwing out some small snippets of ideas with decent content, don't overbuild, until you get some nibbles. Just build out those niches that do get nibbles, but build them well. No point in spending time building good content until you know people are looking for that niche product or service. I think quantity first, then focus on building quality once your research shows you where to build.
Unfortunately there will always be a market for rubbish, sensationalist stuff (e.g. tabloid newspapers, trashy Hello type magazines), but that doesn't mean that we should al aspire to that! Good "quality" content alone is not enough though, you need good SEO, nbacklinks & marketing to get people in to look at your great content!
I still think there is something to be said for making a positive contribution with quality content. For me at least, some things are more important than making money. I'd also like to improve the quality of someone's life, if possible. I'm not saying my way is the best, but it works for me.
In my case, it was totally the oposite case than yours. Earlier I used to write shit content and was nowhere when it came to traffic and ranking in Google, once I freshend up the content I got amazing response in Google SERPs which in turn boosted my traffic like anything.
I'm not sure where you ever got this idea from. Marketing is nothing more than teaching and educating the general public about your business and what you have to offer. If you never tell people about the value your product or service offers, how do you ever plan on making money?
Having a good content is not the only parameter to aim for a successful website. Several other things also matter a lot. Maybe you have a good content on your site but lacked somewhere in properly optimizing it and improper SEO and Marketing, and which those s**t content sites would have been strong at. A proper SEO and Promotion of a site is a must apart from having a relevant and good content to your site. Regards
It is a complete package but in my book quality content his number one and always will be. Don't forget search engines provide the best traffic and if you can give it free over many years you laughing. Pay-per-click and advertising only give you short term traffic, so regular updating of content packed with relevant keywords and down in the right way with a great linking structure is the way to go. These crab sites you mention will only be around for a short time any of people to visit them they will immediately and the bounce rates will be extremely low. They won sell anything
These sites often have momentary and short-lived success. People continue to grow my savvy regarding these types of things, and more and more they are simply hitting the back button when they see a "useless content" site. I, for one, am in it for the long run. My goal is long-term success by providing quality content. Of course, it would be nice to make more money right now, huh?
What are you talking about? Articles? How many articles did you have on your website? If it's 100 or less "unique" then that's probably why. Even if you had 500 unique articles you wouldn't get that much traffic. Tons of unique content combined with good SEO is the key.
I haven't read all the post in this thread, sorry, but I must say that this discussion has no end, and no conclusion. It's like asking which one of the following has more chances of escaping a bring forest alive : 1) A blind man who doesn't have any clue what's going on and here to go (the content) 2) An injured man who can't walk, but knows where to go, or he can simply see and find his way out of the burning forest. (the marketing strategies) I think Buddha said something similar to this and it was really clever. Number 1 must make a team with number 2 in order to survive... So start working on a good link between content and marketing... Just my 2 cents.
I believe the thread-starters definition of quality is wrong. Something you say is "shit" might very well be quality. People buy what they WANT, not necessarily what they NEED. Something stupid that is fun enough for the visitor to use it and pass it by to some mates IS quality.
If you're looking for repeat visitors there's got to be some content that they think is good. It makes no difference about the content if you no one finds the site so....I agree with the 60% marketing 40% content philosophy.
