Final News Conference for President George W Bush

WASHINGTON (AP) — President George W. Bush is offering some advice to his successor, when it comes to dealing with his critics. He says in the end, Barack Obama will have to "do what he thinks is right." If he doesn't, Bush says, "I don't see how you can live with yourself."

Bush told a farewell news conference Monday that presidents can try to avoid hard decisions and controversy, but that it's not his nature to do so. He said he's been "willing to take on hard tasks," and understands that in times of war, "people get emotional."

He said he hasn't been alone in being the target of dissent. Bush said he's been reading a lot about Abe Lincoln, who he says faced his own share of criticism.

Bush said he wishes Obama "all the very best."

The outgoing president doesn't plan to maintain a high profile. He says he's leaving the stage for good, adding that there's only one president at a time.

    What opinions do you have?

Bush is leaving office as a highly unpopular president

Ultimately his legacy will be the complete mess he made of the US and global economy. This will be remembered long after Iraq and Afghanistan have faded into memory.

    ^^^^^^^^^^

It seems history has shown, as long as people who lived under that President are around, their attitudes never change.

People who liked Nixon in 1974, liked him in 2004.
People who liked Ford in 1976, liked him in 2006.
People who liked Clinton in 2000, liked him in 2008.

It works the other way too!

People who hate Bush now will probably hate him just as much until the day they die.

Unless Bush pulls a Jimmy Carter, he is going to be seen as the new Presidential standard for failure and incompetence.

My opinion really depends on a couple of things... I mean if he truly is incompetant and honestly thought the things he did were ALL in the best interest of the American people than... you know what he did a bad job, but he did his absolute best so for character he would get an A, for job performance an F-.

If as some suggest he had alterior motives, made decisions that helped his friends and families out instead of the American people then he gets an F- in both character and job performance.

Good bye and good riddance. What a miserable eight years it has been! And one last time, for the record, he was never the legitimate President.

Florida was rigged in 2000. Ohio was rigged in 2004. There are mountains of evidence.

When do the trials start, and when do we get to see Rove, Cheney and Bush answer for crimes domestic and international?

Hail to the Resident-in-Thief! Wonder what Obama will do to get the stink out of the carpets.

There. Had to get that out my system.

Dubya will very likely go down in history as worst President ever. So many just cannot wait to see him get lost from White House.

    As they say
    Goodbye to bad Rub-Bush ! :)

What happens when you mix the civil rights violations of Lincoln with FDRs shitty economic policies?

You get a 28% approval rating.
