Hi, i was thinking of going into the gaming niche, since i like video games, and wonder if there are many other gamers in this forum..Feel free to contact me
I tried it 4 times, none of those times were there any huge interest/profit Trying to sell off my last site now (Hybrid Game and Anime) It just wasn't a good niche for me
There are loads of gamers on these forums. Most initially took to computers because they could play games on it. As for me, I'm more into the strategic management type of games.
You mean, there is an RTS besides Starcraft? INSANITY. But yes, I have a gaming site, and everyone is correct. It is a lot of work, and there isn't any real money until you get a ton of traffic. Im posting 30 times a day. At the moment, thats 1 post per unique visitor lol. I made like 4 cents today
But warcraft seems to be more popular than starcraft right now..but i think the hottest game for 2009 is still GTA4, according to Google Trand..
The gaming market is one of the most saturated on the net. Its tough but if its what you enjoy then by all means create a site. Beware of IGN, Gamespot and UGO all multi million dollar companies who can wipe you off in no time.
UGO recently bought 1up.com (IMHO the best gaming/podcast site on the interwebz) and fired all the good staff BOO HISS! No more Shane Bettenhausen! UGO are jerks. I've got a PlayStation site, and yes, it's a massively over saturated niche - but if you love it, you love it.
I have a dreamcast website(dc-scene.net) for about 4 years now and also a site about general gaming(j2gaming.com)
it is highly profitable however competitive...find out what those buyers need and want and then give it to them
Highly profitable? Not unless you are a huge, developed gaming site or a site with illegal content to bargain with. A genuine gaming site created by a gamer that actually loves gaming but that isnt some webmaster/mistress whizzkid is unlikely to be highly profitable. I own a few gaming sites, between them they receive a lot of traffic, a lot of page views and I'd be optimistic if I said that Id earned over $100 from them in a year. They take up 90% of my time running them, I love it but, theres not a lot of money to be made and its hard work at times, theres just too many gaming sites out there to compete with.
