Are Older Domain Names Better For SEO

I have a domain name that turned 10 years old this week. I have not used it for a steady website for over 5 years. I have experimented with WP and other programs using it but not for long.

My question is would it be advantageous to set up a website with that old domain name, especially for SEO purposed. I can see where it would be an advantage to use a 10 year old domain if there was a 10 year old website to go along with it.

    What are your thoughts?

It would make your site look more proffesional, as it would seem you have been running longer.

It can be beneficial but if the name is nothing significant, don't use it if you are planning a big project. If it's a name like ro-tkl.com or similar, you obviously don't want to utilize it for a website. If it's a keyword or niche domain that you can fit a site on that relates to the domain, go for it. The name being older won't hurt anything unless it was previously banned from AdSense?

As far as getting indexed and stuff, that's a bonus. There are benefits to using older names but not so severe that it should be your main worry.

If the old domain name is in line with your goals for the site...I would use it. While I don't know for certain, some of the SEO teachers teach that an older domain is more valuable. In addition, you get a little of the link love that was already conneted to the old site, if any.

However, if the domain name is not related or only tangentially related, then go with a new domain...

I should have posted the domain name. It is MulberryJunction dot com.

There is a line of high end purses and handbags that go by the name Mulberry and they have an affiliate program so I was thinking of using that.

Have you looked into a chance of running into any TM issues?

Yeah I need to look at that. I had an issue several years ago with the domain name Bratz.net that I owned several years before the Bratz dolls came out. Was sent cease and desist letter and a demand to turn the name over to the company that made Bratz dolls.

So yes I do need to research that and make sure I am not crossing any TM lines. I suppose I will email the manufacturer directly and get their take on it.
