Hello, I offer people to sign up for a blog (http://blogleaf.com/) but lately one bot keeps registering new user accounts on the website and I can't seem to stop it because it keeps creating accounts even though I have CAPTCHA installed!? What should I do? I've disabled creating new accounts for now... Regards.
can u not block his ip or email address? u could set it so that they need to verify their email addy before they get fully registered
They have to get the password from their email so I'm even wondering how they could automate that... And he is using a huge amount of different email adresses and i don't think I can block an IP with WPMU! I don't know what to do :-D! Regards.
Tearabite has a good idea. Worst case I would do a search on Wordpress forum. I'm positive that your not the only one.
since i implemented the combination of BB+Akisment, my spam problem went away.. I now allow unmoderated comments, with virtually zero spam. The only thing that can make it thru are 'old fashioned' spammers - humans, doing it by hand.. and there aren't many of those..
I'm using recaptcha right now and the bot can "read" the text. And Tearabite, I'm looking for a plugin to disable spam registrations on my WPMU blog, not just comments . Thanks for your post anyway, I'm sure it could be very usefull for other visitors ! Regards.
Instead of captcha ask a question like 1+1=? That reduces a lot of spam. It's simple and more effective than captcha.
Badbehavior will also stop sign-up bots.. I highly suggest you look into it.. Are you able to block that bot in HTACCESS ?
