He is talking about a common practice that ODP management used in order to censor discussions about DMOZ in different forums by bribing the moderators of forums with links or making them ediotrs. ;)

If ODP policy is not there to protect the privacy of individual then what is it for? We have people who are giving publicly permission to discuss the reason for dismissal as editors but DMOZ still refuses. Isn't the only logical conclusion that the policy is there to protect the corruption and mismanagement?
Rob mentioned that many of Metas can not get a job for making coffee in real life. I think the other two ability which is needed is blind obedience and the ability to repeat the official BS over and over. I can see that with you, they have chosen the right person for the job. ;)

....thereby forum members getting either banned, threads are closed thus saving the face of the ODP members.

Just to joggle up your memory and provide my side of the story.
At the height of the DP discussion with regards to porn started by the David Duval, it was then that I joined DP and read all the dirt that the directory where hiding. Kid editors until now has access to the adult section, a kid even got promoted to Meta, links and corruption where rampant at the time (until now for a few) in Adult and somewhere directory wide. I got 2 direct e-mails from an Admin (Orlady) and (Meta) Mirriam Ferrari that its better for me to not join these discussions. For reasons unknown why should I be treated like that and prevent me from judging anything for myself ? Is it a common practice for them ?

    My Behavior
    This might be the reason....
Since I joined DP back then and posted against the directory judging by my point of view and well of course my behavior in the inside forum against another evil Meta (Motsa) my account got locked. That was during the voting of Spring. Was I judged by my behavior or was I judged by my editing ?

    thereby saving you considerable embarrassment.
LOL, all my editing logs are available at the ODP you can even publicly display it and let the people judge.

Move on. Others manage to do it. Find another hobby. Editing is just a way of spending a little recreational time. Surely there are other options for you?
My sites are in my sig you can view them and list them as they are indeed listable and please clean up that category if you have time. ;)

But I want to be embarrassed! Please do your worst! :p

It seems my biggest crime was joining DP forum, only certain editors are allowed to have that privilege and don't get punished.

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old. :D

Like proving why Ivan was let go? Everyone has an agenda and when the agenda is hidden, that is when it makes things look bad. Yeah, yeah, it sure is easy to call Ivan a liar... but from the public eye there is NO PROOF. But then, what chance does anyone here have of getting you to agree with being OPEN about anything, after all you prefer posting Anonymously.

Though, more to the point. "use private posts for your own purposes" What is that supposed to mean? Your quote certainly implies that the private discussions are just what the ex-editors in this thread are saying they are. If there is nothing to hide, then why hide? Oh yeah, forgot, you are posting Anonymously.

But none of that really has any place in this thread does it? Let me answer the thread title again based on posts made publicly by editors, personal experience, and the experiences of others.

"How can i get listed in ODP / DMOZ?"
    It depends on the category!
DO NOTHING, DO NOT SUBMIT! If you submit you run the risk of the editor of treating your site as if it was owned by a *gasp* webmaster! And if that happens, you'll never make it in. It would be best to create a Geocities page and promote that, as all editors know Geocities does not webmasters.

Submit your site every 6 months.

    Submit and forget.

Make an account on Scriptlance.com and PAY for your listing.

I'm sure there are other ways, but according to at least one editor if you plan on just following the guidelines for a listing, such a thing would be shaky at best.

Q, I am looking for the discussions on this forum about people being banned. How are they made? Is it open for you and me to know what happened what was said? Is there any appeal?

Now it's funny that you want all the private discussions we have about how the directory is run and how we decide on who shall and shall not edit or where to be public.

How about you being rounded and start a campaign for all that openess on here. For without it you must draw the same inferences
so is DP corrupt because its discussions are not public? Is DP hiding things because it does not argue with posters that it chooses to ban? Or are they just making decisions about their own forum and because it is their show so they can have whom they want and how they want them to post. Yes there are rules here but breaking them may well be in the eye of the beholder. Come on Q, be evenhanded and start the campaign to change DP just the way you want ODP to change.

I have started threads on the matter and have posted in several threads I didn't start. I've also debated how things are ran here on DP with the moderators and even administrators through PM. I am evenhanded...

I can understand some secrecy. don't get me wrong, but there should be some openness as well. In the case of the ODP, in many cases there is NONE. At least when you get an infraction or are banned here, they give a reason :D

But this is not about DP, it's about the oDP :p

I think as a person she is nice but as a Meta and the present voice of the ODP here at DP she sucks bigtime. Indeed you are right, as I have read her threads and the BS guideline referrals (even with links to the Guidelines and its incredibly annoying already) over and over again.

Its like staying in a room for a week and playing the music Mack the Knife 24/7.

I think Sir Winston Churchill would turn in his grave to see his inspirational report to the House of Commons used in a petty squabble. Please try to articulate your own comments rather than using those of a great statesman out of context.

Nothing could be better for ODP. Having a seasoned editor like makrhod as an admin, would be truly great. Despite your comments and misguided beliefs, makrhod is a great ambassador, performs an enormous amount of voluntary editing and in my opinion, could go a long way to invoking the necessary changes that we need to make, in order to enhance the directory and ensure that it continues to grow in an appropriate manner.

Sadly........I personally would doubt that becoming an Admin would be very high on her "to do" list. ;)

How can you make a change when you can not even admit to the problem?

makrhod posts here has been nothing but parroting the official BS which has been repeated for many years. ODP needs some one with a courage to honestly admit to the problems and then start to make a fundamental changes but probably such a person will never have a chance to become an admin in the face of dominant culture of organizational corruption. :(

Hah. You got it in one! LOL
As for repeating the guidelines over and over, I will keep pointing out the publicly available information until people here give the slightest indication that they had looked at them even once. ;)

And thanks for the compliment, Rob. Received with an appreciative chuckle. :)

Absolutely nothing I say here is "official". I am in no way a "spokesman" for the ODP, and my posts here are entirely my own. Besides, anyone who has read my blog will know that I have a great many concerns about the way DMOZ is managed, and I have been extremely outspoken about that (at considerable personal cost, I might add).

However, I also have a great deal of experience in the directory, and if I can help people with genuine questions (as opposed to those who just want to pick a fight or push their own barrow), then I will continue to do so. :)

Seriously, this is very bad advice indeed. The worst, in fact.
Never mind the repercussions for any editor stupid enough to accept payment, any webmaster attempting to bribe an editor risks having ALL their sites permanently banned.

I keep hearing that so many times I'm getting tempted to create fake identity and offer a bribe to list my competitors (to bad USD is getting stronger again I could have done it already and it wouldn't cost much :p), to bad my only competitor is that thieving wikipedia.

$500, $1000, $1500, $2000, $2500, gworld here is your half... ups I should have kept that private. :D

Be grateful I'm from Croatia and not Montenegro or my family honor would demand that I travel to US and do bad things to people who unjustly removed me. ;)
