Ok here is my problem. I run a website which has currently following stats: * 20.000 unique per day * 1.600.000 page impressions * PR4 Now I want to sell my adspace directly. How much I can expect for a leaderboard banner on top or bottom of the site? I want to know if its useful to move from google to direct marketing or not. It's a apple/mac related forum and has high importance in iphone world. I would like to sell the space on a weekly/montly base because everything else woudl be to much switch in switch off, unless someone could recommend me a good ad roatation software which can do such timings. I have absolutly no clue about ad marketing, maybe someone could give me a helping hand here. We used adsense til today, but I noticed they are paying worse evry month and the whole thing needs kind of a bigger server setup I have to pay as we sometimes got peeks up to 100.000 visitors a day if somethign important happens.
So you are getting over 600,000 visitors a month? You say you have no clue about marketing, so how did you get that many?
Well, I don't run the site for the money. We are very famous for our work in multiple areas of intrest (for us and others) including the iphone scene. We have even more user depending on intresting things happening (macworld, new releases etc.). I am developer, not a busines man. I just want to stop to put redicilous amounts of own money into my projects. The thing why I want to market the ad space is to pay the cost for the server we need and the attached IRC network we run as well. Adsense pays a bit shitty I think. So anyone has some valueable suggestions how I could get into marketing the adspace we have? It's not much, as it just cover all we need + maybe give sponsoring for new projects.
I assumed this is my thread but ok. I got the visitors for the hard work we put into this project. Peopel came on their own hearing about the stuff we do/did. We were even put on slashdot multiple times etc. (without running after them) and had at least 20 digg start page entries. Any further questions? So now someone tell me about my problem maybe?

I would suggest you to collect information about your site and create a media kit to better present / sell your site to potential advertisers. See more details on this at http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1139018 When you have the media kit, you can start contacting relevant advertisers directly and offering them ad space. It should definitely work better than Google Adsense. Check for example http://www.howtomakemyblog.com/monetize/monetize-your-blog-by-directly-approaching-advertisers/ for more details int ohow to find advertisers. You can for example even have affiliate programs that sell Apple related items, where you would get percentage of all sales.
look at the software OpenX - http://www.openx.org/ This is made for you to sell ads on your site directly to other people. I would set it up on your domain, then make sure that you have a google adsense account setup. Stop by the advertisers forum here, and sell blocks of advertising - with OpenX, you can chop it up, selling...say 50,000 page views a day to one guy, 10,000 / day to another. Finally, setup google adsense as your backup, for any slots you don't fill.

it will take a bit of research but first find out who would you think would pay for an add on your site. Then find were these people are and adveritise or send out some emilas and join forums and they should be coming to you with 600,000 hits a month it should be really easy
