I read somewhere that I can get a linux boot CD so that when I put the CD in the computer, the computer would be start up in Linux. I run Vista on my computer. Is it possible? Thanks
Absolutely. There's a bunch of those Linux live CD's, for different distributions, the most I've ever used for these was Knoppix though, it seemed to work well. All you have to do is make sure the CDROM has boot priority over your HDD in the BIOS. You can always run Linux in a virtual machine (virtual PC running on Windows), there's different apps that can accomplish this as well, a search would be your best bet.
Try Moba Live CD - it runs directly in your Windows using the QEMU tool. Just start, wait a try the Linux http://mobalivecd-en.mobatek.net/
Yes. I had a Ubuntu CD that ran Linux over my windows xp on an older computer. All you do is put in the CD and re-start your computer, can't remember if I had to reformat the hard drive though.
Yes, it can, it's called a Live CD. And if u want to try linux, u should start with ubuntu. Easy user-interface and great community support
No need to extract the ISO, just open it in Nero (or whatever) and burn. You can also run Linux from a USB stick - http://damnsmalllinux.org/
If you download Ubuntu, it should be an ISO, not a zip: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download Here's the Ubuntu guide to burning your disc https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
every time I want to burn the CD, windows tries to format the CD first and tehrefore I don't have the required free 698MB space on the CD to burn the Ubuntu file. can i burn it onto a DVD?
The CD needs to be bootable which is why you burn it as an ISO. Use a program like nero or you can find a freeware app in the link previously posted by Kerosene; https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
You can do this , if & only if you have a bootable CD , and then you have to part off your hard disk in two sections .
Yeah... Live CD... We have done our lab programs using that... good ol times...University days.. I think we were not able to save the programs to the HD.. not sure..
It is possible but you have to delete your current Windows first. Windows will not accept any other OS but if you put Linux first then Windows can't do anything about it.
