convert mybb/SMF to vbulletin

Discussion in 'vBulletin' started by NeverEverClever, Jan 5, 2009.

I want to start a forum, looking forward to buy vbulletin, but first have to know if a forum is needed for my community. (free forum is easy to remove, without leaving a whole in my wallet)

So, question; Is MyBB easy to convert to Vbulletin or SMF software?
with what forum i should start (with migration in mind)

    Cheers

If vB is that important to you, just pay for it from the start, it's not expensive.

The developers at VBulletin have provided a tool called impex. Take a look at this help section at vbulletin.com - http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_uploadpackage

I have never used it, but it seems to be pretty much straight forward. And VBulletin has a support section in their forums just for using the impex system. If you want detailed information, I suggest you sign up at the VBulletin.com forums and post a few questions there. Here is a link to the impex support forum - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=92

As a paid forum software the Impex tool works very well. They have a large list of software it supports including mybb and smf. So it's never much of an issue to convert to VB if you so choose.

I used impex to convert my SMF forum to vbulletin. Works great. I tried the 301 redirect tool for redirecting all my old board url's to the vbulletin url's but couldn't get it to work *not skilled*

So I had to come up with a thing in .htaccess to redirect all old url's to a "this page has been moved to another URL" page. which has links to my homepage, the forum homepage and to an easily crawlable sitemap.

While speaking about the instrument for your forum, usually, it’s pretty difficult to choose which is for you? Nevertheless, just a few days ago I found in the web one useful overview of phpBB and vBulletin boards:
    http://visual.ly/phpbb-vbulletin-migration-mechanism-6-easy-steps
As for me, I give my preference to vBulletin because it offers to me a high-level protection.
