Hi guys, I am a novice and I have no idea about coding and such. Anyway, I had someone design a psd which I want to use for a website designed in joomla. My friend says it can't be done and I have a hard time understanding why not. Is it true that if you give a coder a psd design and ask him to code it in joomla he can't do it? My intent is to have this psd that I have and like coded with joomla for a website I have. Can this be done? Any advice would be appreciated. I am a novice, I have no idea about design so please try and make it simple so even I can get a rough understanding. Thanks and everyone gets a rep.
If no one can answer the question above, can anyone suggest if there is another section of dp where I can ask this question or perhaps you can suggest another forum where I can get an answer? Thanks guys.
Why cant it!? it sure can be coded to joomla, it might be hard but not impossible.. btw can you pm a pic of that template.. maybe there is some part that is not do able (which i doubt) Thanks - Brain
Thanks for the reply Brain. You're restoring my faith in fellow DPers The guy basically told me you can just buy some joomla templates and that is how you actually do a joomla template/website. The problem is I have no idea whatsoever about coding but my understanding is you take a design, you do something to it (you code it) and that's how a website is done. I'll pm you a pic and thanks again for reply.
np Your understanding is absolutely correct, we take a design, we code it and that's how a site is made. However some peoples think coding is very easy, well they are wrong, it can be easy on some cases but not always.. Coding in plain html is little easy but when it comes to integrate it with a script (in your case joomla) it can get very hard or very time consuming, but again not impossible ! Coding for a script requires first to make the template in html (or convert design to html) then integrate it.. for the best results ! - Brain
Yeah, your friend is talking bollox. You could take a picture of a banana and make it into a joomla template, or any other template for that matter, if you really wanted to. Seriously though, any template or PSD website layout can be made to work with Joomla, or Wordpress, or Drupal et cetera...
You can edit any Joomla template through cPanel. Another option is to unpack the .zip file of the template you want to use in your site. Look at all the files (images, icons, text) in the template. Just replace any of those files using the same file name and file format. So, if you replace a header.jpg, replace it with a header.jpg file. Once you're done, repack the file as .zip and upload it in your Joomla site admin. This is the way of customizing a Joomla template.
i never understood coding. i just bought my website off someone and paid another person to fix it up for me. costly but well worth it
Hi guys. Thanks for confirming that any design can be coded. Now that I have more than one guy saying the same thing I feel more confident it can be done.
