look at the top fold of this page the six squares add block at the top...

    http://www.etftrends.com/

does anyone know what kind of ad block that is or how they got it? it has a strange size too.

I sort of doubt they are a premium publisher since they only get 3000 visits a day.

Neither have I. If they are just regular content links, the site is violating TOS for having more than 3.

It doesnt even say the "Ads by Google" anywhere next to the ad block... weird..

This must be some kind of special arrangement with google. But why would they do that with such a low volume site...

The ads look compact and cute. I think they belong to the category of premium publishers.

Maybe that is one of his "newer" sites.. his premium site might be somewhere else?

of course it can be that the webmaster has mor sites, and a premium publisher account, so he can add premium ads on all other sites!

    Google Ad Manager.
The ads are iframes which are on his own website in some directory or subdomain. He uses javascript + php to get his ad from another directory/subdomain. This is usually done using iframes which he is using. It is a very simple method to cheat ANY advertising company and even Google. His subdomains/directories must be having good content. Even if someone does report.. Google will check the site and check where does the click come from, the click will probably coming from his subdomain which has content and is not breaking any Google TOS. As far as impressions are concerned, he gets them from his main page + subdomains.

OR Maybe he is really a Google Premium Publisher? But If he was a Preium Publisher his ads should have opened on a Google iFrame.. When you right click on the ad and click on "Show only this frame" it just refreshes the page. Just my 2 cents..

^ You're Welcome.. I get techie with all these geek stuff :p
I know this because I use a banner rotating script which is similar to the above code, but this is just a guess, I don't know exactly how does this work but I know that Google Premium Ads don't work that way :) Using this script is just to hide his subdomains (if he used them directly like an iframe they would have been displayed). He might be using SQL database to display these ads. I can do this too.. :D but I wouldn't try doing this :p

I've never seen any adsense ad like that. One thing I can say about the ads, "beautiful". I think they are effective. It would be nice if we could modify our adsense ads. Google ads are very ordinary looking. By the way, thanx a lot to share this. I'll repot this site to Google. If it's legal, I'll use it in my site.

I don't think these are AdSense ads at all. They are just ads served up by Google Ad Manager.

Yes, the ads are from Google Ad Manager. But it uses Adsense Pub-ID as far I knew. It’s more like newspaper ads. The following lines are from Ad Manager:

    “Selling your site's inventory:
Once defined, you may start selling parts of your inventory by creating an order, an agreement between you and an advertiser that includes an invoice number (optional), start and end dates, and contact information.”

It’s not PPC, but advertisers will pay you for limited/unlimited ad impressions running in your site. I found it very interesting!

Please visit https://www.google.com/admanager/ then visit the “Getting Started” link. You’ll find all your answers.
