If I where to build a list of people who showed an active interest in certain topics e.g.

    Pets

    Cars

    Dating

    Porn

    .etc

What would be the best method of selling those lists and how much would be a reasonable price to sell them at? how many emails would i need to make it worth my while? 500, 1000, 5000, 10,000 ???

P.S. how do i show there legitimacy or convince people they'll convert?

You don't really need to convince anybody that the list is going to convert, that is really up to the owner of the list....

But you could try to market a product to them first and see if they convert, if they do then you will know its a good list!

It is hard to give any details since it varies from niche to niche....

Maybe if you post some more details then we could provide some more insight!

If you sell your subscribers details, you are being dishonest with their private info. That is what spammers do.

What is much better, and allows you to remain one of the good guys, is to find other Marketers to do a JV (joint venture) with. You can agree to each put each other's sales offer to the other guy's list. You sell to his people and in exchange, he sells to your people. Those who are interested respond, and both of you build up your lists legitimately.

Some Marketers will even give away an e-product - for free - or at a very reduced price, knowing they will make more money later from the new list of BUYERS that they get.

Why are you going to sell your email list on the first place?

You could earn more if you are going to keep them by some cpa offers. I'm sure that they would like it since it is for free.

I don't think it's dishonest unless you are claiming to "Not" share your subscribers details with anyone else....

Besides that, you can effectively build and sell lists for a good profit....

I think the real spammers are the people who are selling personal lists that were built by receiving opt in's that people signed up for believing that their details would not be shared with anyone else!

Here are seven ways to make money using nothing more than your subscriber list.

    1) Place advertisements. There are many corporations who will be willing to pay to put their banners and ads on a list with many subscribers. Selling or renting out lists is not a good idea so rather than doing that, many companies would just rather place ads with lists that have a huge subscriber base. Your newsletter could be placed with many ads and each one spells money.

    2) Have affiliations with other companies that have at least a semblance or relation to what your site is about. Here other companies will provide links and brief descriptions of what they offer, products and services. With every click made on the link that directs or leads a subscriber from your list to their site, the company will pay you. This P4P or pay for performance.

    3) Make deals with other companies by asking for a small percentage of sales done through your list. With every sale done by customers that have come from your list and have gone there because of your newsletter, the other company will pay you a small percentage of your sales. The more people who buys from them, the more earnings you get.

    4) You may also get products from other sites on a consignment basis and sell them to your list via your newsletter. Place descriptions, articles and photos of the product in your newsletter. There will be those who will buy from you and when that happens, you can order the product from the other site and sell it to your buyer.

    5) Sell e-books or a compilation of your articles on your list. Manuals and how-to articles are in great demand. Many people will be willing to shell out money to gain knowledge about a certain topic and subject. With your existing list trusting your expertise in that area, an e-book could be offered and sold or used as an incentive.

    6) Create a network out of your list. Get people to invite more people to view your site and subscribe to your list. The larger your list is, the more people will be able to click on your links and affiliate links as well as make your advertisement rates higher.

    7) Subscribers are willing to pay for information if they know that it can be trusted and relied upon. Use your list to get more and more people to subscribe to you as well as browse your site. Lastly, you can use your list to earn money by making them your partners. Your list will be the bloodline of your growth and increase.

    Regards

No it's not a good idea. Basically it a very unethical act and betrayal of trust of your subscribers.

Also if you did not make your subscribers aware when they signed up with their emails that you will be selling off the lists then it is actually illegal. Now many people do this but when I sign up with my name on website a lot I will write the websites name as my first name so that if they sell mine I know where it came from and will send the company an email and make sure I unsubscribe. One time my email was sold to hundreds of companies and they spammed my email like crazy but luckily I did above and knew who it was. I reported the website to BBB and a few others websites as well as to their IP provider. This kind of stuff is just annoying so NO do not sell off your lists because you won't make much money, could get in trouble, and worst off all make a bad name for yourself and your company.

Don't sell. Instead rent it. While renting, please you would need to send the emails from your server.

Take care, if when enrolled you promised you never sell them, then you might have a problem

That's a really dumb idea... You sell or rent your subscribers, you'll lose thier trust and they'll leave (and you might get sued).

As you build your lists, be very clear that they will receive offers and information related to their area(s) of interest.

Then, instead of selling those lists, offer a service whereby you will mail relevant offers to your lists for a fee.

My suggestion: Instead of just sending ads, create a newsletter for each category and offer ad space in those newsletters.

    For example ... pets.

You build a list of people interested in receiving information relevant to that niche. You publish a weekly or monthly newsletter. Each newsletter has 4 ad spaces. You sell that ad space to advertisers that want to reach this market.

If you sell the lists, you are limiting your profit potential and you run the risk of putting your credibility at risk.

In either case, be VERY clear with subscribers about what will or will not happen with their email addresses.

Precisely, so I wouldn't even think about. Once your credibility is damaged, you're pretty much screwed.

Yeah no sense in doing this. If it is a list worth buying you could just use them yourself to get traffic to your website as well as pitch on offer now and then.

If you sell your list your return visitors will probably be mad at you, and never use your site again. So, no, you shouldnt sell your list.

Instead of selling your list, why don't you join in affiliate programs and promote it to them? you are throwing the gold away..

No, if you're going to do any such thing with a list, you need members' consent forhand, usually through a Terms of Service agreement... Even then, you make yourself vulnerable to possible lawsuits and even more so to bad rating..

It's just a plain old bad idea.
