When I do a Google search where my site appears in the search result, in the site description it doesn't show any of the keywords I'm searching for as it does for other sites that appear in the results. The meta description for my site appears, instead of the phrase on my site where the keywords can be found. I'm thinking that because of this, I'm ranking low in the search engine because these are keywords that should place my site near the top of the search results. Here is an example of what I'm seeing in Google search results: Phrased Googled: "awesome website" CompetitorsWebsite love the colors of the new wallpaper on my computer. I told my dad to check out my awesome website, but he said. ... www[.]competitorswebsite[.]com MelbelsWebsite This blog is covers many topics from liberal politics to how much Melbel loves sushi strewn throughout the many posts. ... www[.]melbelswebsite[.]com
What google chooses to display for your site does not affect your position in the rankings. It may impact how frequently people choose to click on your site in the Search Engine Results, but not the placement IN those results.
How can I change it so that Google uses the phrase where the keyword is found instead of the site information from the meta tags?
Google usually picks up the description to be showed in SERPs from the "meta description" listed in your website. But that is not a hard and fast rule. It can pick description from your website and other Open Directories you may be listed in. Site description does not affect rankings on SERPs as far as I know. As already said it does increase the chances of a "click through " and therefore you description should be treated as a sales copy. 150 Characters is what Google with display along with your listing so you will have to keep it concise and effective.
First you have to find out whether Google displays title and description as given in the website, in the SERPs. Check whether the "meta description" meets the google standards, that is 150 characters including keywords in it.
Well yeah, but I don't want the meta description to show in the Google search results; that's the problem. I want the keyword that people searched to show. For example if my blog is about politics and I write just ONE post about lawn furniture and someone searches for 'lawn furniture' I don't want my meta detail to show, but instead the part of the post where I mention lawn furniture. However, I would like meta data on my site; I just don't want it to show up in Google search.
