    Hi all,

We all know the importance and slight impact of keyword rich domain names. I have a scenario I would like to discuss and i'm seeking thoughts.

I'm going to build a website selling products. I was analyzing and noticed something. I'm going to make the product up "skates". I was looking at domains like buyskates.com, buystake.com. When analyzing the keywords, buy skate has about double the searches monthly than buy skates. Say I bought buyskates.com so i'm basically targetting both keyword phrases. The issue I found though..when I search in google for buy skate, all of the top domain names had skate in the domain name as opposed to skates. So i'm now thinking about ordering the domain name without the s (skate).

I'm now thinking, the exact spelling of the domain name when targetting keywords seems to make a huge difference. It seems it would be more beneficial to use skate in my domain name instead of skates for better results.

What do you think of this theory?

    Thanks

    1. When using skates you are targeting both keywords. You can easily prove that to yourself - just find a similar domain, run a search on Google for both keywords and you'll see that the domain name is bolded in both searches.

    2. Keywords in domain name is not the "mantra" of SE optimizing. You can rank for buy skates even if your domain is obamatheblogger.com. It all depends on the work done, your resources and your patience. Sure having the exact keyword in your domain is important and will give you a little boost in the beginning, but the money you will give to buy that domain (buyskates.com) will be far more better spend somewhere else - marketing the site probably.

I am agree with Collin Beckett its right SEO is not only about the domain name, you have to do a lot for getting a good ranking however the domain name also plays a good role for a site search. I think putting "s" will target your both of the keywords "skate" and "skates" therefore I will suggest you to use skates in your domain.

    best of luck
