.net or -.com

    Hi all,

From SEO perspective, which domain name would you choose. I have a two keyword name. The .com is taken, .net is avail. I can use a .com domain name but i'll have to put a dash in between the keywords. What would be better off for search engines?

    Thanks

They are the same, be it a dash or a .net, i would take the .net since it looks much better without the dash, and if the project is serious, then i would look for a .com without a dash.

Domain extension is not what that matter, keywords in that domain name is what matter.

I never purchase a domain with dash. It don't look professional to me. Better go with .net.

    Just my 2 cent.

.COM is more popular than .NET
Like Dynashox said it: "Domain extension is not what that matter, keywords in that domain name is what matter."
In this case, I would look for .NET without the dash between the keyword, it's more professional.
One more thing, don't register domain name trademark, you should check that out first.

I use .net and .com (with dash) and they are all positioned well in search engines.

^ I don't know of any "advantages". I think people simply think of .com before .net when manually typing a URL, but thats it.

From an SEO perspective, I don't think the - really matters too much either way, but for the same reason, most people don't consider using dashes to seperate words when typing in a URL. So, either way, you are really running into the same negative problem.

    Good luck! :)

Definitely the .net over the -.com.

Search engines and web developers tend to stray away and devalue keyword-keyword.com domains even if most won't admit it.

From what a few large SEO's tell me they say it goes like this

    1. .gov
    2. .edu .org .com .net
    3. .info and all others

This is what they say I do not know if it is true or not but they are some reliable sources for things usually and all of the said the same thing.

It doesn't depend on the domain but how many links are pointing to it.

I don't think it will affect SEO. But a .com will probably be a more brandable one.

Yeah like I said above on my post and wanted to specify. From an SEO perspective there is no difference but from a branding perspective when I start a new website I buy all extensions and point all to the .com.

SEO has nothing to do with tld but still, always stick with .com. Then .org and only then .net, so first look for .org. if its available.

I think .net would be a better option than a .com with a dash.
