Does 'Pinging' Build Links?

Hi All,

Two Questions:

Number One
Does use of a pinging service like pingomatic or pingoat actually build backlinks?

Or do they just notify other blogs that are subscribed?

Number Two
Does pinging do anything for sites that are not blogs? How about if those sites have an RSS feed ("what's new", for example)?

My blog gets pinged everytime i make a post and iam yet to see any benefit from it. No visitors and i am sure pinging doesn't create backlinks. WordPress blogs ping automatically so i don't worry to much about it.

 

Pinging helps to get SE notified on each new post or change on your blogs

 

it just really tells the se's that you are home and there's something worth checking, i haven't really gotten many, if any backlinks from the ping services at all.

 

It does not directly build links.

It does alert sites that you have new content, if these sites are displaying your RSS feed and have it set as DoFollow then you may get a link.

I ping a whole list of sites each time I write a new post (actually wordpress automatically pings the list I gave it). By using Google alerts I can see how long it takes for Google to index my new post. For NorCal Auto news Google has each new post indexed within about an hour.

Pinging just notifies search engines. For wordpress auto pings, links in your content referring to other blog posts are automatically pinged or alerted that you have linked to them and you are trying to get your trackback approved by the blog owner. Once approved you have a backlink.

 

You can always get 3-5 RSS of your own (same niche) and create links using a feed agregator, RSSMix... etc. I did this for some sites/blogs/zombie sites and it works pretty well. Try it out

Witch plugin are you using?

 

Wordpress lets you enter a list of pinging sites in its setup screen.
I got the list from somewhere on the net. No special plugins for the ping.

 

In wordpress go to "options" then Writing. You will find an area to add ping sites. I use this list.

What is the Advantage of pinging so many different sites?

 

Just gets your latest post out to as many sites as possible. Increases the chance of your site being picked up by sites that display rss feeds.

While all of them may not be needed, I'm not sure which are the ones that are helping to get my posts indexed by Google so quickly and it doesn't hurt to notify them.

When you ping you ie. blog then yes u will get backlinks. I use technorati and it works. Basically it informs search engines about your site and they will crawl your site ...AFAIK
