Hi guys, Please review my job search website - JobTarzan.com What do you think of the design and/or function? Feedbacks are much appreciated Cheers!
I'll give you both the good and bad, ok? Upon first arriving, it wasn't immediately clear that this is looking for actual employment in a home town. Most websites list jobs for online work. So this threw me off just a second or so. I did do several searches and enjoyed all of them! You have an awesome database of some kind! I'm impressed! I looked at nursing and copywriting and got excellent job listings for two major cities each. This is awesome! There is one problem though with your advertising: when the job search is completed - it says "Copywriter in Minneapolis",l then immediately under it, there is ads for Occupational Therapists and Hiring Cashiers, etc. This throws me off right away. I didn't realize that the results were listed under the advertising blocks. All in all, you've done an awesome task at putting this together. I wouldn't have ever achieved what you've done. I also read just last week that sales and impression goes up 300% by the header that you have. I would suggest a header stating "search in your city" or something of the sort. All in all, I'm really impressed! Pennie77
As far as the design goes I think it looks good however, I would suggest that you put a few sentences of text on the landing page to explain briefly what the site is about.
Nice job keeping it simple. I think I would change the "what" and "where" to something more descriptive like "occupations" and "location"
@ Pennie77 - Thanks for the valuable tips - featured job ad is removed, and a header with "search in your city" is added @ seromatt - at this moment, they are all from Indeed... @ kingofsanda - A sentence describing what the site is all about has been added - thanks to your suggestion! @ river - Occupation and Location has been added - Thanks for your tips @ aaalba - Thanks for the praise Thanks all for the valuable input - all has been applied to the site! I'm open to more suggestion... Cheers!
Easy to use. Easy to remember. Extremely simple to use. And all the job results I got for my zip code in Puerto Rico were great (except for the one that offered to work for the CIA and the site name was "asian jobs"). The results are clear as well (not a bunch of text that gets overwhelming). One quick thought, isn't the Tarzan name a trademark or someone's property? All in all, a great site that I'll want to use from now on. (I even added it to my favs )
dvwiz, Thanks for the review I'm not sure about the CIA work, but it does happen occasionally At first I did hesitated using the name tarzan - but then I see sites using the name Tarzan in their domain names, so I thought using it would be okay. Thanks for adding to your favs!
design: too weak and light. also seems a bit outdated for these times. check out some of those new 'web 2.0' designs. go run through some css galleries. now-a-days everything is big, bold, and bright.. functionality: search also seems a bit weak. not enough information there. google-esque search results just seemed to turn me off. i also see its powered by indeed - why not just go there? or any of the other huge search sites? when you click on a result you get brought to indeed, then you need to goto the original post. too many hoops.
overall the design looks good. It will be nice if you can fetch the data yourself instead of getting it from indeed.
@ mstef - thanks for the feedbacks: Regarding the web 2.0 look, I've considered it, but I want my job site to be lean and fast. Regarding functionality, any samples to recommend on how the search result should look? This job site is, indeed, using Indeed's XML API to source for jobs - It's two ways benefit, really - I'm driving traffic to Indeed, while (hoping) to get some bucks from Google Adsense @ idevil, masricano, web-fanatic, ihatetheinternets - thanks guys! 'really flattering @ cutemonster - that would be scraping and not a good practice IMO, it's better to do it this way, or accepting listings myself for a fee... Thanks for the idea, though.
