Want a free avi video editor

I need to find a free avi video editor. It should not spoil the quality of my video.

Windows movie maker had blurred my video... It is not sharp like before editing. I need an editor which can edit a avi video with the quality remains the same. What software shall I download?

AVI is a poor quality format, if you can, try to encode things in a better-designed format like H264 and at least bring your file into the 21st century.

I was just going to suggest that ;)

There was this other free one I used to use, I forgot it though.

    I'll try to remember.

No, I tried this software even before posting this thread. It is not supporting the video. I don't know why.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Virtualdub seems a good suggestion among all of them. But I edited a video which was 700 MB using virtualdub and the edited file is more than 25 GB. Is anything abnormal?

Wondering youtube will ever accept these big video file :D

yes, you're using a file format that's inefficient and was created before WINDOW 3 point ONE.

Upgrade to at least this century and use a format that sounds something like H246 or something like that, its MUCH smaller filesize at higher quality.

You mean to say that I need to convert the avi video into H246 format first and then edit it? Am I right?

video qualities depend on codecs, if you look for smaller filesize with decent quality go for h264 or divx
if you look for lossless video quality go for any dv codec or huffYUV
