should I go for very old domain but not continously up

Hi there,
we all know the older the domain name better for SEO & search results.

The domain name I am looking for is pretty old but it's used by many webmasters so far. also there were some breaks when the domain was not hosted anywhere.
The domain name is registered in 2001. Should I make buy/negotiate for it?

Or is the above statement is olny true if it's owned by a single company over continuous period?

 

Older domain name is better for seo , but not necessary , if you are working with new domain 3 month continuous .. tht giving also good result ,

Domain age is not factor in seo... it depends on how the owner promoted it..

 

the age factor only comes into play if the previous owner had done some activity with it..maybe listed the domain somewhere or something similar..other than that, the domain age is of no relevance..

 

Age is an important factor for google ranking. But buying non ranked or no traffic old domain is waste and also working SEO for it is a big waste it will not up. Better buy a high ranked old domain or new domain

i have always though older domains tend to rank better than newer ones unless obviously the newer one got more relevant links

 

i would give you suggestion that better choose a new domain.

 

An old domain is not necessarily better. What if it has been penalized in the past. You can't always just buy the ranking associated with an "aged" domain.

u r right, promotion is must but domain age is very important factor .....so u can't ignore it..

 

yes offcourse domain age an important element of seo point of view, it does matter a lot, but its okey you can also go with new domain the thing is you need to work little hard than older domain if you get older domain easily without spending too much which you want, otherwise its ok no need to worry go with new one and start boost new domain....

 

Wrong, i've done a number of tests one i even posted live here in the forums. I had a 10 Year old domain not indexed, purchased the exact domain in the .net so it was 1 Day old.

Put the exact same page on them, give them a PR5 backlink from the same page so every variable was removed and the old one always outranked the new one. I have even done the test with old .net and new .com to rule out domain extension influence.

Explain that, coincidence after several independent tests?

Two things that are considered in the age of a domain name are: 1) The age of the website 2) The length of time a domain has been registered

If you want to get rank in Google only with old domain. So, It is not possible. If you have old domain so it's good. But, Google need fresh and unique data. If you increase your activity on site so, you will get rank in Google sure!!!!!

 

What is the duration of being dropped last time to today ? old domains certainly do better then new domains but be realstic, the difference is not much and make sure you don't overpay for the domain.

 

Ive noticed with my older sites as long as they have been in google for a while they do great. The new domains I have bought fall victum to the non-existing sandtrap

 

I agree with people saying that an old domain is one of the factors considered by Google. And besides I've read that older domains have less chances to get into the so-called Sandbox. So, what are your thoughts on it?

 

There's no doubt older domain names work better. I guess that's not the point why I've started this thread. I want to know will it work if it was not continuously up & used by different companies/webmasters?

I think if I wait for 6 weeks after its expiration I'll get it anyways. But does that make a fresh domain altogether?

The PR of website is 0-1. The domain is up since last Jan 2007; Before that nobody ever do anything on that domain except publishing single word "welcome".
it was down for Jan 2005 to Aug 2006. it was again down for sept 06- jan 07. (source: http://web.archive.org)

 

I have a domain that is 10 years old. I bought it and then took apart the site and put content on two new domains. Anyways, the domain has a number of pages indexed in Google for the old content. What is that domain worth? Its a 6 letter domain. I'm debating whether to sell it or use it for another purpose. Thoughts?

 

Depends on the name of the domain of course, & what you're gonna do with it.
In my case it's not at all ^the hot^ name so I guess I can relax, I'm sure nobody would buy it. unless it's available.

But in your case if you bought that particular domain I think there must be something hot in the domain name. it doesnt matter no. of letters of the domain. we all know many domains with long names which are doing exceptionally well...
