How is Google yet not capable of stopping this spam ?

    Hi Guys,

This is ridiculous and absolutely frustrating to see many a times top Google results are spammed and spammed badly.. but still these sites manage to be on top positions..
We work so hard to find top positions on Google using all the possible SEO tactics and spend so of time and money to achieve those positions.. and what happens is we are thrown far away and are positioned after many pages or not even taken in search rankings.. really frustrating..
Here is why I am frustrated:
Just goto Google.com and search this keyword - order herbals online
See the results - many of the positions must be occupied by something like this.
    order-herbal-online.on24meds . org or
    order-herbal-online.himds . net

when you click on those links it will first goto that site and redirect to
    http: // www.canadian-pharamacy-drugstore . com

or sometimes the same link redirects to

http: // the-canadian-meds . com or similar sites..

How frustrating is that to see over 10 pages of search results filled with similar spam sites.. and any legitimate site is no where near the top results.

GOOGLE Engineers are busy banning sites for using a longer titles with extra keywords or over optimization etc.....
Who will deal with these sites ??????

    that's only a time question
if I dont make a mistake, what they do is called backdoor websites
So soon they'll be reported by someone or detected

Is it that one site that is bugging you? Otherwise just report that site to Google and if it's more than that one site make a compliant about spam to Google. I am pretty sure they will do something about in time.

Quick some one name a reputable website with 3 hyphens..

    Wait .. there isn't any!

Why can't google do something about this? -> No

Why doesn't google do something about this?

I can pump out a script in -60min to detect & parse garbage domains like this.

I fail to understand, or even sympathize as to how these domains make it into results.

I'm not sure i've ever seen a legitimate website with three hyphens, or even 2?

So if it walks & talks like a....

Google Says: .... it must NOT be

The domains noted in the OP only have 2 hyphens and yes there are legitimate sites with 2 and 3 hyphens.

In the 2007 season the BMW Formula 1 cars had rear-wheel-drive.com on their rear wings. That site now redirects to the team's main site, which has 2 hyphens as well - http://www.bmw-sauber-f1.com/. BTW, the BMW F1 team has had a budget in the hundreds of millions of dollars per year recently.

Google would have no credibility if they blocked these sites just because of the number of hyphens in the domain name.

In such cases Google relies on people to report the offending sites. Then Google compiles what information they can so that they can improve their algorithm.

It's a cat and mouse game, and I highly doubt Google can be expected to stop all the spam. But they do make efforts to aggressively combat the problem.

If people want to put 10 seconds of thought into their domain name then so be it. That doesn't mean force users to choke down 10 billion spam results that not-by-coincidence.com happen to have the same crappy form. Domains with multiple hyphens by obvious majority are spam.

If a search returns multiple+++++ hyphenated domains, it's an obvious red flag to a human, but apparently incalculable for a machine? - Give me a break, look @ the results of this search, care to even count the amount of hyphenated (spam) domains?

    Guys..

why argue over 2 or 3 hypens.. check this..
    order-herbal-mometasone-furoate-monohydrate-online.mdsforyou . net

I am surprised that Google is actually ignoring it instead of killing them long ago. Because long time ago I had seen such results for some other keywords.. but that time I did not dig into it and thought they were temparory and Google will deal it soon. But now when I wanted to target this keyword.. I went deep into search results..
To inform you all.. I went till the end of search results with that keyword.. 88th page of search results.. I found it there also. I mean how can I report 88 pages of spam results to Google ? There are hundreds of odd domains to be reported. Then what are their engineers doing ? just busy with designing new logos each festivals ?

This is actually hurting people like us who do all the hard work and wait for results to show.. when the time comes we see results like this.

I guarantee that something will be done about it. But you should report the site to Google now.

anandnadaar: Yeah...can't they even start somewhere?

Is it really unreasonable to say anything with multiple hyphens, certainly 3-4 or more has a VERY HIGH probability of being totally illegitimate?

    Simple Math:

    <Returned Hyphenated Domains> (calc hyphens) (<>) = SPAM

The fact that they are indexed & ranked indicates lack of effort. (much like who named the domain in the first place)

IMO it's despicable and was something that should have been dealt with long++ ago.

Well I have reported this to Google at - http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html

But the question that is impossible to answer in that form is this -
The specific web page or site that is misbehaving:
I can't copy paste 88 pages of their own search results on that text box.

Hope Google finds a way out now.. because these spammers have found a way to keep themselves on 88 pages of search results on number 1 search engine without much of problem.. This is just one keyword we are talking about.. If I give some time find out then I am sure I will come up with many such keywords which is spammed like hell on Google.

Last G update was awful. Spam sites came taking top spots at maybe 70-80% of the queries i analyze daily. And this is just me, imagine thousands of webmasters looking into this piece of crap...

Spam will always be around because there are always those people who have the need, because no way their scams sites would rank high enough to have traffic. Having the resources they will work around what ever google will throw at them. It sux.

They are trying their best to stop spam, and while over 80% of the hyphenated sites happen to be spam, Google cannot impose a blanket ban on all of them.

Because of their sheer volume, many of the sites go undetected.
