I want to have a contest in the next month or two. I was thinking of selling several items on ebay with a link at the bottom with a tag something like

"Click here to win a sony camcorder"

Anyone if this is against their tos?

I am not 100% sure but I believe linking off ebay to other sites for such purposes is against their t&c. However I am not sure, best to have a quick read through their t&c or just send them a quick email.

Yes ebay won't be OK with that. If You get a customer in eBay You have to do business with them in eBay. Even customers are advised not to do business outside of eBay because they will loose eBay protection agains't fraudulent users. There are ways to do that but it's not so simple.
Try selling something cheap and on the emails or even snail mail, when You send what You just sold, include some information about Your website where they can go and get even greater stuff! just an example...

I figured that was the case. I came across Russell Bronson that was advising (I doubt he was doing this himself) to put squeeze page on your ebay profile and when you sell an item you instruct the people to check out your profile for a free "whatever your product" and get emails that way.

I guess I can tell them to go to my profile and have a link there.

If the link is for more information it might be within the terms of service, as long as you're not selling anything (I think)

But I'm pretty sure you could have the link go to your About Me page first and then link it from the About Me page to an external website. Same anchor text but just link it to the about me page first. That is if the haven't changed the TOS again.
