It's very easy - but not free. It will cost the new owner one year's regfee at Godaddy.

To do it, just click on the domain in your Account page at Name.com. At the bottom of the popup window is your auth code. Click on it (to highlight without additional spaces before or after) and copy it. Then send it to the client and tell the him/her to start a transfer at Godaddy. The instructions are easy to follow.

What about transfering between two accounts on name.com? Do any fees apply? And how to do it? I've done some research, but I've only came across an account transfer option and I'm not sure if that's it.

^^ right. And no fees apply for a push (internal transfer). It's free.

Standard fee for .com renewals at name.com is 8.99 USD ... and AFAIK they don't offer discount codes for renewals.

I've transferred several after the expiration date but the official word from name.com is you can do an external transfer right up to expiration, but not after. The give you 25 days post expiration to renew at the standard rate. After that it goes into redemption and will cost about $120 to recover it.
