Netscype - DMOZ like!

Hi,

My name is Rouzee Gino and the owner of netscpe . com etc etc, and want to start a DMOZ - worldwide like directory, with admins who will approve the submitted sites. I already have the global layout to give it a nice look to select your country.

At the moment it is just a idea, but i am not scared to start it up and running.
I dont want it to be a linkfarm but i solid slow groowing directory.

Is this a good idea or not.

Please give advice and not crap solutions, just the pro's and contra's.

Do you intend to make submitters wait for years to be listed just like DMOZ?

Netscpe as in like Netscape?

I suggest you buy a more original sounding domain to be taken more seriously, your current one screams that you want to piggy back off of mispelled searches.

 

We can't create another Dmoz because it's too difficult to create it with human editors..

Is the problem a script(s) or the human(s) factor?

 

Netscype is a nice name no!
I am working very hard to uphold the name, maybe its not the best choice, but i stand 200% after the name.

? well if you do wishing you the best, you write above start a dmoz like directory / It's just and Idea

The idea has been done By dmoz so id say its their idea that you want to duplicate and copy and not original

with that your really only talking a general web directory on a large scale if you can get it to fly then it may be like a similar directory but never a dmoz

The amount of work and effort / expense would be huge to pull that o, if your patient, have big pockets then i suppose.

But it also may be better to look at alternate options / an original idea or at least set up a test pilot site to gauger and monitor before making a final boots and all in call

 

same applies to general directories also!!!

 

Try some thing new rather than creating another DMOZ directory.

There is nothing wrong in copying the idea and implementing it in other way if it's useful for people around the world..

But creating a directory like dmoz is very difficult because of two reason
a)Web is very large.There are thousands of new sites coming every day
b)No one would be interested to work free for your directory..

 

Servers is no problem.
At the start this could be a problem, but people ( mods) could help out.
Who said it would be for free! Mods can use there ads on the site. (idea)
I schould start in my languages i master. I know my english is not 100%

 

This plan is a big big big big big big project!!!

Basically you're trying to compete with The Monster which until now no one has been able to do it. It's going to be really hard and without the right resources you will not succeed or even get close.

You must start the project yourself and once established please comeback and search for mods. Not many will take you seriously unless you have something we can actually see.

Anyway good luck with ideas and never give up.

1. you are using a name based of another's success. - FAILURE #1
2. you are trying/want to be the next 'DMOZ' - FAILURE #2

You're whole idea is set to fail from day 1.


Advice:
Start fresh - get a better domain name. (See failure #1)
Start clean - stop trying to compete with what is already out there. (See failure #2)
Start innovated - put your thinking cap on, and make something different.

 

You ask for opinions and then when people give you their opinion that the name seems like a mispelling of netscape you argue with the person's opinion.

So, I don't think you want true opinions. I think you want to hear "yes it is a wonderful idea, can I please, please become an editor and make lots of money for you?"
