Instant Money or Long Term Money - Please help me Decide!

    Hi all.
When I was a Noob at DP, I asked you all a suggestion to decide my career. I got excellent advices. I'm now in such a situation again. Need some suggestions from you all again...

I'm a C# programmer and a Webmaster. I'm now developing a Semi Automatic Directory Submitter (which has more than 8000 directories). Hopefully I'll finish it within this week. My question is whether to sell the Complete Rights to one person and make instant cash or to sell the Software in longrun for longterm cash.

I first decided in longterm money. But, if I sold complete rights now itself, I'll get atleast $500 for the Software. $1 today is more worthier than $1 tomorrow. I can then concentrate on other Software (have some more software ideas).

If I go selling the software in retail, I need to concentrate on marketing etc etc.. If I marketed it properly definitely I can make a huge cash. But what IF NOT? This is not lack of confidence but I'm talking about the worst case scenario.

BTW, I have some sites running, just started a Social Network for Pet Lovers. So I need more time to maintain them (I'm doing this in evening as I got office in day time). The time is the real factor which makes me think about Instant Sale of my Software.

    Please advice me...

    Thanks in advance!:)

How much would you be selling the software for per purchase?

Since I've more than 8000 directories listed in the software I can sell it for atleast $50 - $100 per copy.

It would be dependent on how many you can actually sell. No offense, but I personally wouldnt pay a dime for it. I only do manual directory submission because the automated software has poor overall results (in my experience).

Why not duplicate the software. Sell the 8000 version and make a slightly different version with 4000 and maybe an extra feature and then sell that version long term.

So I say do both, thats the best mix. Just make sure there is a market for it.

Sell it at the long run coz it make you more profit.
Consider this, now it only have 8000 directory, but later on you can add another 1000 directory to the software and offered it at your customer for let say $20 for the ad dons.
You definitely can earn more that selling it one time

I'd advise you to go for a long run, If at a latter stage if you find it difficult to manage then you can happily sell the complete rights to someone.

Build businesses (long-term) not JUST Money Makers(short term)...notice I said not JUST. You can actually do both.

Just remember businesses build assets....links,email lists, content etc.....

I normally go for long term income but it sounds to me you have more important sites to work on that will make you more money in the long term.

So I vote for sale it to someone for a nice profit. You have no time to be promoting a product for long term income when you have some that needs your time and will make more money than the software ever would.

Right well if you need the money desperately then the choice is obvious. If you can survive without it the long term option will last you longer.
