You should go to a do-follow Programming or Software related forum such as Inferno Programming Forums and add a signature linking back to your site, and participate (also try not to spam or post pointlessly, if you are really helping people, people will visit your site a lot).
Yes you need to go to forums related to that niche and post using signature links. Try not to just go there and start spamming people won't like it. Give first to then receive. There are quite a few high traffic online forums about software & hardware. It's the perfect place to promote your site. I know it takes time to post but at least it's free targeted traffic.
