    yep. i usually leave twitter open on my desktop and try and twitter about 5 times a day. a mixture between;

    • useful help
    • answering people that need help
    • trying to add a bit of humour (doesnt always go down well)
    • self promotion
    • affiliate promotion

    That's definitely the way to go these days. I've been using Twitter, Plurk, Facebook, FriendFeed and some others to promote my stuff. I was a fan of Pownce but that's gone now :(

    Hey, if you aren't using twitter to network and promote whatever you do, you are losing money, plain and simple. Twitter is a great way to communicate with people who are interested in what you do and what you have to offer. It is super easy to set up and use and you can build a large group of "followers" in a short period of time. Cheers!

    Everytime I post a new page/content to twitter, I post the new link. I broke 1,000 followers yesterday, and it gets me anywhere between 15 and 100 visits per day. I'm not really building any conversations yet, so I'm sure I could get more out of twitter than I currently am.

    Twitter is fantastic, if you firstly focus on building a rapport with the followers and actually getting to know them, the traffic should flow a lot better.

    Top Tips

    # Follow genuine people back if they choose to follow you (ignore spammers)
    # Respond to as many peoples tweets as possible
    # Use Tweetlater to automatically follow people, and to also send them a welcome message (make sure this is not selling anything, but mainly saying thank you).

    # Use a decent picture of yourself, aslong as you're smiling and giving a good impression, that's what counts :) .

    I've been using it for a couple of months now and seeing a small amount of traffic to it, which is worth it, given that tweeting only takes a few minutes a day.

    I think it works better if you tweet a combination of comments, questions & blog posts, interact with the people you are following and don't put your link in every single tweet.
