Best size for a blog post to be?

Discussion in 'Blogging' started by version2, Dec 14, 2008.

When it comes to blogging, what are people's thoughts on the best size for a post. I think that it's not actually important, and it can be as long as you like.

However I have been told that some can be two long, and you need them to be longer than two paragraphs.

What do people think search engines prefer?

I am not sure about search engines but I do feel a 300-500 word article is good enough...If you want to write long articles then write it point wise so that its not boring

I always thought, an article to be different from a blog entry.

An article I always thought was something more for article directories or static pages, whereas I considered blog posts to be shorter than articles, however they could still be quite lengthy?

Hope that makes sense, been a long day.

Who cares what search engines prefer. You write articles for people. If you can get your point across in two paragraghs do so. Keyword stuffing and filler to lengthen a post will only confuse and alienate your reader base.

I think blog post size doesn't matter actually  though 250 to 500 words enough for blog post IMO.

As Mizaks said, you write for people and not the search engines.

The best posts often happen to be long, and because they address the subject matter so deeply and get plenty of links from other blogs, they tend to rank well in the SE's.

It depends on the topic. I agree what others are saying that you should write for your readers. With that said, you should write as much as is needed to bring the point across. Good blog posts should not include a lot of fluff.

Most people want to read the meat and if you get too long, they may quit reading and miss the whole point. On the other hand, if you are too short and do not include important details, they will not return to the blog. It takes a nice balance to keep them reading and coming back.

Reread all your posts and make sure they are interesting and include good grammar and spelling. If they are interesting, size should not be an issue.

My thoughts are that as a blogger you should just speak your mind and don't worry about how long or how short the post is.:D

The point of blogging is to share your thoughts and knowledge. Search engines don't care how long your posts are. It's the originality of what you write that counts.:)

It really depends on who you ask but for an article, and or blog post most people will say 300-500 or 500-700 words. make sure on your blog you only display the first 4 lines or so to get the people reading on.

It really depends on the topic, blog author and what his audiences prefer. I would usually write short blogposts :)
