    A warning to everyone out there who may consider buying pets for family or friends as a christmas present... Please DON'T buy PETS as gifts, every years millions of dogs and cats are sent to the pound in January because they are simply unwanted gifts. Pets are for life not just for christmas

    Does anyone buy their pets gifts for Christmas ? My pets are spoilt every day, so Christmas will be no different. ;)

    alright, atleast animals will sit in houses and will get care from families, i think its not a big issue.

    If you are really confirm that you need a pet, go to the animal shelters, get one from there. Save them from euthanasia rather than get one from the pet shops.

    I have the same situation with you .
    None of my family member has enough time to raise a pet,
    I never think to buy pets as Christmas gift .

    I tend to share your opinion, as many of the people will probably give up on the pets and let them become the stray dogs/cats in the end!

    While I agree with not buying pets, I only think it should matter with the big ones like cats and dogs. I was going to get a friend a Chinchilla (THEY'RE SO CUTE!), and I know they wanted one too.

    Small or big, they are live living creatures that need care and attention. Getting a pet as a present for a friend will be ill advised. What is cute now may not be cute one year down the road....

    I think it's a great idea to buy someone a pet for Christmas, but not as a surprise. I mean, make sure they know you are doing it, have told you just what they are looking for, and if possible take them to the pound to pick out their own.

    I also think it may be a good idea to be prepared to keep the animal yourself, just in case the person receiving the gift changes their mind. Better you take the pet you originally purchased to give it a good home, then the friend taking it to a shelter where there is a good chance it will be put down.

    I agree if the present doesn't go as plan you have to be prepared to keep yourself. Pets are pets, big, small, hairy, makes no difference they all need a life long caring home.
