Started Photoshop Today- Look at my first designs...

I decided to start photoshop today, seems people make a lot of money from it and save a bunch from designing their own stuff insteadof getting others to do it. Here is what I did today in about 5 minutes. Please give me good tutorial websites which will help me. No advanced places, oens that have very detailed instructions and beginner ones. All free.

Not bad for a beginner. The best site for photoshop tutorials is probably youtube. There is a wide range of tutorials and you will be able to watch someone explain how to do something. This way you can pause at any time to catch up too!

That's pretty good for a beginner. Try finding some spoonfed photoshop tutorials. After a few exercises, you should be able to do things on your own. Just remember not to go overboard with all the features on one piece of work, sometimes simple things pay off.

I second this opinion... When one starts to learn something new....one tends to use all the features immediately on the first creation itself...

Take baby steps...master the use of one feature..and then only move on to the next...and you would do just fine....

Nice one to start off things. But you still have to learn a lot to make your design edgy and good.
Keep up the good work mate, good to see some one starting and learning.

Not bad! I remember when I first started with PS. It was brutal.

Check out some nice fonts on dafont.com and the tutorials at www.good-tutorials.com

That's where I was able to teach myself a lot of what I know today.

There are also tutorials at deviantart.com

Not bad, better than my first work, but I would lay off the layer effects. Layer effects can be incredibly useful, but stuff like texturing, beveling, and drop shadowing always look pretty bad, and in fact is one of the signs of a design newbie.

On the other hand, the patterning is nice and subtle, and I would recommend playing with flat text over that, perhaps with a bit of drop shadow or outerglow just to make a stronger differentiation between text and the background (and when I say subtle I mean so subtle that no one who didnt know would realize you had applied either, just the barest amount to add to legibility)

edit: Oh god the patterning is a lensflare. Hahaha, and I didnt even realize it. Well, good use of it I suppose, but in general avoid lensflares. In fact, if there is one piece of advice I can give, its avoid filters altogether. I find that in general I use about three filters, unsharp mask, Gaussian blur, and noise.

edit: also psdtuts.com has great advice though its kinda mid-level
