Dont question my motive...its just something i want to do. If I add it to my robots file as a disallow, will google stop visiting it?

generally google follows robot directives. You could also block based on the useragent of Googlebot to that paticular file.

Silly question back at you, but can't you just remove/delete the sitemap file?

are you still expecting other search engines such as msn and yahoo to make use of the sitemap?
