Hello... Im going to buy a new HARDCORE Desktop for my personal use ,but a bit confused, whether to go for AMD Dual Core or Intel Core2Duo.. The reviews and recommendations are 50-50 now and so im a bit in a dilemma. Gaming purpose is just a NO-NO ,since im a System Developer and i just need a high end performance and heavy speed processing speed.. Kindly let me know, what you think, from your own experiences..
i don't think you will go wrong with either one, seriously. There will always be AMD/Intel hater/fanboy. I personally use Intel....just being like that since my first computer...so just want to stick to it
Both are quite outdated now? If your after "hardcore" desktop I would get at least an Intel Q6660, I personally believe Intel will be the better choice, you can pick them up at great prices now.
Huh ? Why are you suggesting a Q ? You can find benchmarks for practically any application there is. Compare the two CPUs that fit your budget and select the winner.
Well It would help if we had the exact names of the processors to help you, I suggested the Q because I was thinking like a system builder, it is cheaper than select Core 2 Duos and one of the best in terms of price and performance.
As a developer, either choice would be fine. I would check out local stores ( except Best Buy or Circuit City, big rip offs ) to compare specs and prices, and set yourself a budget. If you are getting a Vista system, find a system that offers alot of ram and consider installing XP instead. Whatever you find, there are deals out there. Even lately Walmart has been carrying some pretty awesome lines at really good prices. You just gotta remember that computers get old very fast. I wouldn't find a new AMD system under an X2 4200 or a standard Intel ( get a Core2Duo ). But again, either would be just perfect for you. ( Small note, I'm an AMD guy and a programmer, never could complain about my AMD and its quite old and still runs strong and fast )
That's the catch point and determining factor. With equal performance, Intel is slightly costlier than the AMD. Now you decide what to buy?
id suggest going with an AMD quadcore, or dualcore. The last Intel CPU Ive used was a PIII Xeon, then i found AMD. Once you go AMD, you never go back.
Well,i got to have a VISTA ULTIMATE SP1 Loaded System with 4GB RAM . Just i need to choose a Processor,so that i can then go for the Motherboard.. Price doesnt matter ,but i just need a HARDCORE BEST PERFORMING PC. Thats it! From above replies,im unable to choose now even.. Can anyone suggest me,which particular one, should i go for? PERFORMANCE AND SPEEDY PROCESSING IS MY NEED!
Good: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 3.2GHz Dual-Core Better: AMD Phenom 9950 2.6GHz Quad-Core Best: AMD Opteron Quad-Core 8347 1.9GHz If money is absolutely no object, if you can drop a big bankroll, then get this processor AMD Opteron Quad-Core 8360 SE 2.5GHz Although its a bit pricey at $2162 I'd reccomend the Opteron Quad-Core 8347 1.9ghz, or the AMD OPTERON 8350 QUAD-CORE 2.0GHz but its $400 more than the 1.9ghz hope this helps your decision
Intel is currently ahead of AMD by a mile. I used to really like AMD and I have been using them since the Athlon/Duron days but so far none of AMD's current offerings can beat Intel.
AMD is good for gaming purpose i think..but if rights on my hands then i would go with Intel...there is no comparison... Intel is best..
Intel is much better than AMD for the higher end models. Intel Core2Quad and Core2Extreme would be good. If the budget permits, you should definitely go for the newly launched Intel Core i7 with 4-8gb DDR3 RAM.
OK DONE!! IM going for INTEL CORE2DUO only.. Just one question... I will be having 4GB RAM. So what processor model and motherboard should i go for ?? Exactly, model number and name. THANKS!!
That's no longer the way it goes. I was an AMD fan for their lower priced performance, but if you look at it now: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2014685,00.asp You can see that AMD outruns Intel in a VERY few tests. And since budget is not an issue, he should go for Intel. However, my opinion is that it would be idiotic to get the very BEST/most expensive CPU, you'll pay x3 the price for a few percentages of extra performance.
