How is my design/layout

    Hello,

My site is quite specific so any visitors will likely only find it and visit it if they want what I am providing, however I only seem to get visitors staying for about 1 minute and visiting 1-2 pages (according to google analytics).

Could somebody please have a look and give me some feedback - what would you change?
    Many thanks
    Tom

I am no pro, but may be some design face lift is most probably needed.

As Apple users are more aware of design appeal than others what i feel, a better Macish design sure will help retaining visitors for longer time.

    Just my 2 cents :)

i think that basically people dont believe such things. if they dont, than you should do something with the picture (the main big image)- something to reduce its dominance - and do other things with 'how it works' - to increase its dominance.

Very nice site, the background color is also nice. Try to change the content's font type to "Times new roman" which will give your site a professional look.

    Hey tombsc,
I think your site looks ok as well, But if I
were you I would not use Black as your main color scheme.
If you want people to say you have to have it inviting to them.
Black is not inviting to the regular customer. It is like at curse or
something when trying to sell something that is not darksided.
I would try a white try body background and a light blue background.
Make it a bright site and you will get people to stay longer. As your
Text you should try MS Sans Serif, Research has it that this type is
very appealing to the average person shopping online.

just so you know the light blue is just a suggestion, but Blue is for
the power of your site so it could be a medium color blue as well.
    Hope that helps.

Thanks I think you may be right. I was going to go for a white background with a silverish foreground - just like apple...but don't want to copy them too much.

Good idea, that image is rather large.

Would having the Proof or Rss section on the front page be more appealing as well?

Times New Roman is a Serif font -people with reading impairments have trouble with serifs.
I chose a font that meets some internet standard wotsit - AA or something (?)

Thanks for your response. As above, I may change the color scheme, although my css skills are very basic and I can't quite figure out how to change the background color, but I'll get there at some point!

Looks good, only I would align your footer with the Apple button. It seems a bit off otherwise. The top navigation above the header I think should be moved to below the header or taken away completely because you already have the side nav bar.
