Is it possible to buy a Domain name for Life?

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by RightMan, Dec 7, 2008.

Can I buy a domain name for life and where can I buy the same since I do not find any providers giving that option.

If not...what is the maximum time period for which one can buy the same?

    Regards,

No, you can't buy a domain name for life. The maximum registration period is 10 years (.com).

I never tried it but I wonder of you could buy ten years and then keep renewing for ten shortly after you buy it. Of course, what is lifetime? You could die tomorrow!

I think 10 years is the max, just put it to auto renew and your set for life :)

Not actually, in 10 years time, don't you think that your credit card number may change? Or your admin email address? You may even forget about the domain by that time. I did saw one major domain registrar offering this, trying to find out which is it.

They can't estimate the life span of every person so can't work out the actual costs. Need agreement with god for that :D

Back in 2004, Network Solutions offered a 100 year registration (which I think they have since withdrawn). It renewed your domain for 10 years, then as soon as there were only 9 years remaining, it automatically processed a renewal with the central registry for another year.
