Hey everyone! I've just been thinking about up and coming internet trends, and what I think could be big in the future... But hey, this is a personal view, so I thought I'd ask everyone to see what you all think! I was looking at some sort of site I could set up to make money, but am struggling... Proxies are no good because there are millions worldwide, directories seem to be saturated and with Google devaluing their worth in getting people PR and etc. they're a dieing breed... Even content sites are saturated - every niche anyone could possibley think of is taken, and the ones that possibley aren't don't have a market for them, so are not worth expoliting - Is there a gap in the market? But then ask yourself, is there a market in that gap? SO! What do you think is going to be the next big thing/money maker on the internet? Personally, I'm thinking streaming online video content, and lots of personalisation are going to be big over the next few years, but then I can't think of anything else! I would absolutely love to hear peoples thoughts on this, and hope to make this thread a stimulating debate! Will
Interesting idea, Mentos. I would never have even thought of that, but I can see it being big. In a way, you could link it with personalisation; the personalisation of the news People have lots of views to share today so podcasting is an excellent way to get them across. Obviously, this might not be a viable idea in China..
Maybe not THE next big thing on the internet, but you should consider online operating systems...especially when they are prepared for web 3.0 - syndication with social sites, sharing information across both online and offline services....you get the idea.
Building on what Brennan has suggested, theres the idea that people will be operating in 'clouds' more and more in the future. Rather than storing things on hard drives built into the computer, people will be increasingly storing things on remote servers so they can access them on any computer, and they are safe if computers fail (called a cloud?). This is obviously a very high tech solution and could be the Web 3.0 mentioned above.
