I recently came across this article on PC Mag: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2334870,00.asp I think the author is not only biased, but doesn't really know what he is talking about. He probably has no idea that Google's algo involves over 100 different factors for ranking sites. And his idea that the search results should remain the same over time is simply ludacris. IMO, Google is still the best search engine. It's not a fluke why they own over 60% of the search market share. What do you think?
I dont think Google will die, but you only have to look at what Yahoo are doing with www.myhpf.co.uk this in time may shrink there market share!!
I don't think that active seo gets the wrong sites to the top. reason: People who do seo, spend a lot of time making their site good! They add lots of content and regulary, so google rewards this with a better ranking. As soon as you stop doing seo, adding content etc... your competitors who are still doing it will overtake you. This means that the most up to date best content is at the top. ----- That guy in the link talks about site "xyz, com" should be at the top when xyz is searched. That should not be the case. Google does give higher rankings if you have the exact keyword in your domain, but it often results in the wrong sie being at the top. If it was like that then you could get to the top really easy, which would increase spam. Another argument for this is 'offcial sites' e.g fan sites. When a celeb has their own domain it often goes to the top. However I often see a small info section and no updated content. Lower sites with regular updates have less specific domain names, but are better, more relevant and are usually the type of site the user is looking for.
Interesting article, but in my opinion i don't think Google must die.. As they are offering a lot of FREE services and tools beside their search engine
If Google is dead, there will be a huge vacuum in the search engine industry, thousands of different search engines can spring out and there will be a huge revival of search engine industry. It would be better than the current situation where one company dominates.
It accounts for 30 % of internet traffic Where would peoplem go thn? It can't die day after day ...they are running behind new innovations !
It's a pretty bold article from one of the leading technology magazines. The author obviously doesn't know what he is talking about, but they choose to let him represent their company.
I think Dvorak makes some valid points as to why search engine results may not be as relevant as some would like. Instead of calling him names, refute his points one by one.
My post (forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1139813) should disappoint a lot of Google fans. The more I search for different keywords in different niche, the more spam I see!! Oh and btw, please do not get me wrong. I am a Google fan myself but the thing is that I am really starting to get annoyed here!
Google is the world's greatest business application. They aren't going anywhere, anytime soon. Their search engine is much, much better than competitors.
What google has is just slimmed down search engine page that doesn't bog down with crap. with MSN and Yahoo its search plus news,im, etc Google is just search, nothing to distract you its got everything hidden in links but its perfect i hope it doesn't change or go away cause i use google everyday
Where are we going to get some free traffic if Google dies? Yahoo and other search engines don't work like Google so they won't be sending you lots of traffic for having lots of back links. The person who writes that certainly doesn't think.
I don't think that guy really knows what he's talking about. I use Google for all my searches. He obviously hasn't searched on Yahoo or MSN lately
