I heard from where that using the vertical bar helps separate the keywords in your title meta. Has using vertical bars helped you with your seo?
Yes it can be helpful to separate keywords with a vertical bar or a dash. Many sites get carried away with this technique and their title turns into just a list of keywords. Remember that you also have to make your title enticing to click on in the search results.
Sorry I must have clicked twice. I personally use a dash to separate keywords since I think it looks less spammy.
I use the vertical bar in title for all my pages and it helps to abstract the title with targeted keywords. From the SEO point of view, I don't know how far it is still relevant?
it is just a keyword separator.... some uses blank space, some uses - dash, some uses vertical bar |.......
i usually have a relevant domain name to the keyword in this issue so i usually do something like this (keyphrase here) | (post/article/whatever title) | example.com
Agree, but I think it is also important to make the title look appealing to the searchers. So I think it is not a SEO decision but it is still important to choose if "|", "-" or a space is better.
Google deals with vertical bars very differently compared to dash and comma. Check point #9 of this article to get an example of what the difference can be http://searchengineland.com/9-seo-quirks-you-should-be-aware-of-146465
Interesting find thanks. I have always used pipes | but largely because I think it looks better. I didn't realize there was actual rational to it. Nigel
I am not sure this is actually a thing any longer but, I still go with the pipe lol.... 3 years later. Trying to sort the algo a year ago was a fools errand. Now I try to rank stuff based on what I think people are going to talk into their freaking phone...
